Human rights situation in Iran, 2018- Amnesty International report<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amnesty International\nsays that the human rights situation in Iran, 2018<\/a>\nhas severely deteriorated;\u201dTorture and execution continued,\nthe authorities intensified their crackdown on the rights to freedom of\nexpression, association and peaceful assembly, Labor rights were violated and\ndissenters were imprisoned.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amnesty International\nreport on human rights situation in Iran, 2018,\nconsiders various aspects of human rights, such as, freedom of expression,\nassociation and peaceful assembly, the use of excessive force, arbitrary arrests,\nmedia crackdown, torture and other cruel treatment, as well as freedom of\nreligion and belief, discrimination against women, and ethnic minorities,\nworkers\u2019 rights and death penalty, particularly in regard with the children who were under the age of 18 at the time of committing\nthe alleged crimes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pointing to the\nnationwide protests, in January 2018, the Amnesty International report\non the human rights situation in Iran, 2018, adds:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTens of thousands of men and\nwomen took to the streets throughout the year to protest against poverty,\ncorruption, repression and authoritarianism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Security forces violently dispersed the protests,\nbeating unarmed protesters and using live ammunition, tear gas and water\ncannons against them, causing deaths and injuries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Amnesty\nInternational, \u201cthe trials\nwere systematically unfair. Torture and other ill-treatment were widespread and\ncommitted with impunity.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Floggings, amputations and other cruel, inhuman and\ndegrading punishments were carried out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report on the\nhuman rights situation in Iran, 2018 says: \u201cThe authorities sanctioned pervasive discrimination\nand violence based on gender, political opinion, religious belief, ethnicity,\nsexual orientation, gender identity, and disability.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freedom of religion and\nbelief was systematically breached, both in law and in practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cExecutions took place, sometimes in public, and\nthousands remained on death row. They included people who were under the age of\n18 at the time of the crime\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amnesty\nInternational\u2019s report on the human rights situation in Iran, 2018 pointed to the arrest of dozens of conservationists\nin Iran and said that four of them were\ncharged with \u201ccorruption on earth\u201d, which carries the death penalty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the year <\/strong>2018, \u201chuman\nrights defenders and lawyers continued to face arbitrary arrest, detention and\nprosecution in reprisal for their work\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amnesty International <\/strong>has mentioned <\/strong>the arrest of \u201cprominent human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh and\nher husband, Reza Khandan, how were arrested and faced charges in connection\nwith their support of women protesting against forced hijab (veiling)\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report\nsays: \u201cauthorities arrested and detained, prosecuted or\ncontinued to imprison at least 112 women human rights defenders\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another part of Amnesty International\u2019s report relates to the workers\u2019 rights. In\nthis section, it is stipulated that the ban on the formation of independent\ntrade unions has been continued: \u201cthousands of workers staged\npeaceful demonstrations and strikes in protest unpaid wages, poor working\nconditions and other grievances. Authorities arrested hundreds, sentencing many\nto prison terms and flogging\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report points to the crackdown on workers\u2019 protests in Haft Tapeh Sugarcane factory<\/a>, and Ahvaz steelworker<\/a>s, as well as teacher\u2019s sit-in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On February 21, 2019,\nthe Amnesty International, noted in a detailed report titled\u201d LAWS DESIGNED\nTO SILENCE\u201d<\/a>: \u201cThe Iranian authorities use provisions\nin the Islamic Penal Code to criminalize the activities of human rights\ndefenders and civil society organizations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is to be mentioned, that the human rights situation in Iran in 2018 has become much worse, and there are certainly many violations of human rights, especially women\u2019s rights<\/a>, which are not mentioned in this report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore, the\ninternational community must refer Iran\u2019s human rights dossier to the UN\nSecurity Council. <\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
