Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader and his fear of overthrow<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his New Year<\/a> speech on March 21, Ali Khamenei, Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader, showed his fear of the outburst of the popular anger due to the economic crisis, inflation, and high costs. He focused on the economy as the core problem of his regime. Referring to the dire livelihood condition of the people in recent months he claimed that some of the problems must be compensated for.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The promise of \u2018compensation\u2019 is the known tactic of all\ncorrupt dictators in the brink of their overthrow. Khamenei, out of fear\nand adversity, minimizes 40 years of failure to only a few months and expects\nthe people who had chanted \u201cdeath to dictator\u201d and \u201cShame on you Khamenei\u201d in\nthe uprisings to believe his promise of \u201ccompensation\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pointing\nto the previous Iranian year, Khamenei said: \u201cThe enemies devised many plans.\nThey had many plots\u201d, \u201cAccording to their own words \u2013 \u2018unprecedented\u2019 sanctions\nwere imposed by the United States and Europe,\u201d however, he claimed that they\nreceived \u201ca solid and powerful response\u201d. One step further, being caught in\nimpasse, he revealed that this claim was nothing but rhetoric and added: \u201cThey\nmight make all the hubbub for 1397 (March 2018-March 2019) but the actual plan\nwill be for 1398, we must be cautious\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader says Europe has practically pulled out of the nuclear\nagreement with Iran (JCPOA). Khamenei called INSTEX (Instrument in Support of\nTrade Exchanges) a \u201cmeaningless\u201d measure and \u201ca bitter\njoke.\u201d He said that only expects \u201cbackstabbing and treason\u201d from\nWestern European countries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\naddition to expressing his fear about the economic, security, political and\nintelligence warfare,\nIran\u2019s Supreme Leader, acknowledged the danger of a military warfare for the\nfirst time, and said: \u201cI say that we\nmust establish a deterrent system so that the enemies who occasionally desire a\nmilitary attack find that, that\u2019s not possible, that is what deterrent means.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AFP reported that in his New Year message<\/a>, Khamenei called the country\u2019s economic situation its most serious and primary problem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nnews agency added that, \u201cIran has faced increased economic hardship in the last\n12 months which was aggravated after US President Donald Trump withdrew from\nthe 2015 nuclear deal last May,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According\nto the AFP, the IMF reported that the Iranian economy has slumped in recession\nin 2018 and forecasted a 3.6 percent decline in the country\u2019s GDP for 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader is more aware than all the regime\u2019s officials that, 1398 is the year of his regime\u2019s failure in solving social and economic problems. Most importantly, Khamenei is afraid of a military conflict while, he had emphasized before that there would be no war. Indeed, the Iranian people are determined to topple this suppressive regime. Since the beginning of the nationwide uprisings at the end of 2017, the protests, strikes and social dissents have been trending upward day by day. And now after the recent devastating floods which proved how incapable this regime is and how little it cares about its people, Khamenei and his regime must await more protests and uprisings which, with the guidance of the Resistance Units (MEK network inside Iran)<\/a> will inevitably lead to its downfall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
