Europe\u2019s INSTEX, or a bitter joke<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last\nweek, the Iran regime\u2019s Central Bank (CBI<\/a>) announced that it has launched the STFI, Special Trade\nand Finance Institute, a trade mechanism similar to the Instrument in Support\nof Trade Exchanges (INSTEX), launched by European countries to circumvent the\nUS re-imposed sanctions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On\nthe first day of the 1398 Persian New Year (March 21, 2019), in Iran\u2019s\nnortheastern city of Mashhad, Ali Khamenei, delivered his annual speech and\nbashed the western states over the nuclear deal, aka Joint Comprehensive Plan\nof Action (JCPOA<\/a>) and INSTEX. He stated:\n\u201cWhat has recently been said about the new financial channel they created is\nmore like a joke. This is a bitter joke, and once again the Europeans have\nstabbed us in the back\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Contrary\nto Khamenei, Rouhani and his faction believe that Europe\u2019s INSTEX will provide\nthe opportunity to save the regime\u2019s collapsed economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One\nthing is certain; the dissention between the regime\u2019s factions over INSTEX is\nso serious that they accuse each other of \u201ctreason\u201d and \u201csabotage\u201d for\nsupporting or rejecting it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indeed, Europe will only\nimplement INSTEX after Iran approves the necessary financial transparency bills\nrelated to Financial Action Task Force (FATF<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s noteworthy that two\nbills of the FATF, related to financial transparency, are currently stuck,\nundecided, in the Expediency Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mohammad-Reza Bahonar, a\nmember of the Expediency Council, the body that examines the FATF bills, said:\n\u201cDecisions on this issue is very delicate. It\u2019s not like there is a choice\nbetween good and evil, but we should rather say that we are choosing the lesser\nof two evils.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\nsentence clearly shows that Khamenei faction is unwilling to save the economy\nbecause they fear that the financial transparency will expose that the Iranian\nRegime is the leading state sponsor of terrorism and that it funds terror\ngroups across the Middle East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These statements clearly show\nthat Khamenei\u2019s faction is fully aware that the financial transparency will\nreveal their Regime\u2019s leading role in the state sponsor of terrorism,\nparticularly in the Middle East, thus they have no tendency in ratifying the\nFATF bills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So there is no light at the\nend of this tunnel and the European states must end their misguided appeasement\npolicy and instead impose sanctions on the regime to help their Iranian people\noverthrow the mullahs ruling Iran.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 20th, in her speech on the occasion of the\nIranian New Year, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi<\/a>, the president-elect of the\nNational Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) addressed the issue and stated:\n\u201cNow, the strategy and stances of the Iranian Resistance are echoed by the\nwords and demands of workers, truckers, teachers, students, farmers and all\nprotesters throughout the country. The overthrow of the clerical regime is the\ndesire and demand of all the people of Iran. The problem is not whether this\nregime is engulfed in this or that crisis; the problem is that the mullahs\u2019\nrule is in crisis altogether.
