MEK popular support, the survival factor<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the time of increasing popular anti-regime uprisings and calls for regime change, as well as the international community\u2019s determination to change the Iran mullahs\u2019 malign behaviors, the impacts of the activities of People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK<\/a>) is a subject of debates in different political centers, much greater than any other time. So it is not strange to see, those who advocate the misguided appeasement policy and lose benefits by a democratic change in Iran, have resorted to calling into question the MEK popular support inside Iran. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In the absence of a democratic and sound election\nmechanism under the rule of despotic fundamental Iran regime, one might ask\nabout a trustworthy measure of clarifying the MEK popular support inside Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In an article published in The National Interest<\/a> titled \u201cConfronting Iran\u201d, Mr. Adam Ereli<\/a>, the former US ambassador to Bahrain and the former spokesperson for the State Department, points to some clear evidence and concludes that the MEK popular support in Iran is the main reason for the survival of the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK).<\/p>\n\n\n\n The article reads in part: \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIn July 1988, Ayatollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, was compelled to \u201cdrink the cup of poison\u201d and agree to a cease-fire with Iraq, after having sacrificed the lives of almost 1 million Iranians. Concerned about the vulnerability of his regime to public unrest, the Supreme Leader ordered the cold-blooded murder<\/a> of\u00a030,000<\/a>\u00a0MEK members who were being held in regime prisons.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
