A conference discussing developments in Iran and the existence of a viable alternative to the mullahs\u2019 regime in Iran was held in Ashraf 3 in Tirana, Albania, home to the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK<\/a>). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Renowned dignitaries from the United States and Canada provided their views on the Iranian opposition, under the leadership of Mrs. Maryam Rajavi<\/a>, President of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI<\/a>).\u00a0

Ambassador Robert Joseph, former U.S. Under Secretary of State for Arms Control, said: \u201cThe only solution to the nuclear threat of Iran is regime change. That remains true today. But this is truly about the fate and future of Iranian people. This is about values, freedom, promoting democracy\u2026 The NCRI and MEK provide a viable alternative to this regime\u2026 The first and foremost victims of this regime are the people of Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird affirmed: \u201cWe can exploit the regime\u2019s vulnerability to support the people of Iran. The regime realizes that when it falls, they will have no place to go. The senior members of this regime know that they will have nowhere to go and they will be held to account for their crimes such as the 1988 massacre and the bombing of the Jewish center in Argentina.\u201d

Gen. James Conway, former Commandant of the U.S. Marines Corps said: \u201cThe objective of authoritarian regimes is survival of their regime. The Iranian regime also wants to be the first power in the region. How do we counter that?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have been countering their expansion of the \u2018Shiite Crescent\u2019 in Syria. We should continue to do that. The second thing we should do is ratchet up the sanctions. What the sanctions have to identify to the people on the fence is that your regime is seen as a pariah. It\u2019s leading you nowhere. If the sanctions are necessary to convey that message to the middle-tier of the society, we should ratchet it up,\u201d Gen. Conway stressed.

Senator Robert Torricelli affirmed: \u201cWe have to keep reminding members of Congress and parliaments across Europe that if you believe in equality of people, why don\u2019t you believe that the people of Iran have the right to an equal government?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere is an alternative. You can pull away from the mullahs and take a stand to topple. Because there are Iranians who will rise with the MEK,\u201d the former senator continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe had an opportunity a few years ago when the sanctions were working. There are strong indicators that the protests in Iran are becoming political,\u201d said former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c When people find out what MEK really stands for, it all starts to make sense. We\u2019ve got the same goal that is a free democratic Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
