Since Friday last week, the people of Iran have been protesting and holding anti-government demonstrations across the country. government announced that fuel prices would be increased dramatically, angering the protesters that have borne the brunt of the regime\u2019s corruption and mismanagement of the economy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Council of Resistance of Iran\n(NCRI<\/a>), the main opposition to the\nIranian regime, has been closely following the people and the events that are\nunfolding. It has reported that protests have spread across more than one\nhundred cities in almost every province. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NCRI has also reported that there have\nbeen more than two hundred deaths of protesters. The opposition is encouraging\nmore people to rise up and support the protesters that are out on the streets\ncalling for the regime to be held accountable and fighting for the rights of\nall Iranians. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The leader of the Resistance, Mrs\nMaryam Rajavi<\/a> has called on the UN Secretary General to meet urgently with\nthe UN Security Council, given the high numbers of deaths and injuries since\nlast Friday. Mrs Rajavi<\/a> has\nsaid that deaths and casualties are increasing by the hour, emphasising on the\nurgency of the situation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A number of protesters have been arrested\ntoo. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC<\/a>)\nhas reported that one thousand protesters have been arrested, but the real\nfigure is certainly much higher. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the latest updates from the country,\nthere have been IRGC properties destroyed by protesters and a number of cars\nbelonging to security forces have been set on fire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the University of Tehran in the\ncountry\u2019s capital, protesters have been chanting \u201cDown with the dictator\u201d and\nother anti-regime slogans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Shiraz in south-central Iran, protesters\nhave been blocking roads and taking over the area from security forces and\nanti-riot police. In another part of Shiraz, protesters have set fire to an\noffice of an official linked to the Supreme Leader. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MEK has a huge network of members and\nsupporters both inside and outside the country. Despite the cell phone and internet<\/a>\nshutdowns, the MEK<\/a> has\nbeen able to disseminate up-to-date information about what is happening in\nnumerous cities. Its network in Iran said that two Fajr Corps commanders\n(linked to the IRGC) were shot dead by a colleague. The two commanders had ordered\ntroops to fire on protesters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MEK network has also been able to\nintercept radio communication between forces. In a recording from Robat Karim,\nthe chief of the Greater Tehran police force and an IRGC General were heard\ntaking about the protesters. They said: \u201cThey\u2019re destroying everything. There\u2019s\n5000 of them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Young people are instrumental in this\ncurrent uprising, as they have been during the protests over the past few\nyears. The people are going to be the force behind regime change and will be\ndirectly responsible for changing their future. They are determined to move on\nfrom years of repression and move towards rights for all, freedom and\ndemocracy. <\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
