Resolution introduced to the Portuguese Parliament on November 29 condemning the suppression of Iran protests<\/a> by the mullahs and was approved by a majority of 210 lawmakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Portuguese parliament has 230 lawmakers. Of those, 210 voted in favor, two abstained and 18 MPs voted against.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following is the text of the Portuguese Parliament\u2019s statement in support of the Iran protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

VOTE OF CONDEMNATION AND REGRET No. 62 \/ XIV\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding the deaths in the demonstrations in\nIran\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Iranian population\nbegan, on November 15, a wave of demonstrations and protests. Protests against\nthe 50% rise in fuel prices began in the capital and spread to several cities\nin Iran.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to international\norganizations, such as Amnesty International, at least 106 people were killed\nin clashes with security forces, however, it said in a statement that \u201cThe\norganization believes that the real death toll may be much higher, with some\nreports suggesting as many as 200\nhave been killed<\/a>.\u201d It also noted that recent events \u201creveal a harrowing\npattern of unlawful killings by Iranian security forces, which have used\nexcessive and lethal force to crush largely peaceful protests.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are also several\nreports of gunshots from security forces on rooftops of buildings and, in one\ncase, from a helicopter.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accordingly, the Assembly of\nthe Republic decides:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. To show its regret for\nthe people killed in the clashes in recent weeks in Iran;\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. To condemn the excesses\ncommitted in the repression to stop the protests and demonstrations.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Background: Acording to reports by the network of\u00a0the People\u2019s\u00a0 Mojahedin Organization of Iran\u00a0<\/a>(PMOI),\u00a0also known as the\u00a0 Mujahedin-e-Khalq (MEK)<\/a>, inside\u00a0Iran\u00a0indicate\u00a0demonstrations\u00a0have taken place in more than\u00a0189\u00a0cities.\u00a0More than 1,000\u00a0protesters\u00a0have been\u00a0killed, 4,000 wounded and 12,000 arrested\u00a0during the Iran protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
