The British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF<\/a>) issued the following press release as the joint commission of the JCPOA meets in Vienna on Tuesday, 1 September, and the Iranian communities in Austria hold a rally outside Palais Coburg in Vienna on Tuesday at 11am (local time) to protest the UN\u2019s failure to extend the arms embargo on Iran. Press release: Call by more than 100 European and Arab lawmakers to re-impose UN Security Council Resolutions against the Iranian regime; Emphasis on the imperative of disbanding the IRGC<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than a hundred European and Arab lawmakers endorsed a cross-party statement, condemning, \u201cThe<\/em> brutal suppression inside Iran like the carnage of more than 1,500 people<\/a> in November 2019 uprising<\/a>,<\/em>\u201dand continuing \u201cterrorist plots against its opponents, examples of which have happened in recent years in<\/em> France, Albania, Denmark and Netherlands leading to the expulsion of seven diplomats of the regime and the trial of one diplomat and a number of its terrorists in Europe.<\/em>\u201d The signatories demanded that the United Nations Security Council Resolutions be re-imposed against the Iranian regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The signatories, from the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, Lithuania, Romania, Switzerland, Jordan and Egypt, urged their respective governments to \u201cTake every necessary measure to<\/em> maintain arms embargo on Iran. No country should sell weapons to Iran and Iranian regime should not be allowed to sell or send arms to anyone.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement reads, \u201cThe Iranian regime has actively been involved in war-mongering activities in the<\/em> region. It is refusing to fully cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) over the JCPOA <\/a>and is clearly violating many clauses of the JCPOA <\/a>and the Resolution 2231 of the UN Security Council including the degree of Uranium enrichment, its accumulation and the number of centrifuges.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Iranian people have repeatedly cried out in their street protests that they need their national wealth<\/em> to be spent on the people\u2019s welfare and basic public services particularly at present in confronting Covid-<\/em>19. They do not need Uranium enrichment facilities; they do not favour ballistic missiles programs; they denounce expenditure of their money for war-mongering activities and meddling in the Middle East countries,<\/em>\u201d reads the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement adds, \u201cWe support the call by the leader of the Iranian Resistance <\/a>that the country does not<\/em> need two armies. IRGC must be disbanded and the money allocated to the IRGC <\/a>and its destructive programs must be spent to improve people\u2019s life<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
