The statement by 12 members of the European Parliament refers to the 67th UN resolution, the gross violation of human rights by the Iran\u2019s regime, and the reminder that 1,500 people were killed<\/a> in the November 2019 uprising<\/a>. The statement then states that beyond the coin of repression inside the country is the export of terrorism against the opposition abroad. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The full text of this statement is as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In December 2020,\u00a0on the basis of\u00a0a resolution introduced by most European countries, the United Nations General Assembly condemned Iran for the 67th time for its gross human rights violations. On December 23, 2019, Reuters reported that \u201cabout 1,500 people were killed\u201d in\u00a0November 2019. The death toll was provided to\u00a0Reuters\u00a0by three Iranian interior ministry officials. Thousands more were arrested in these anti-regime protests.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amnesty International\u00a0announced in its March 2020 report <\/a>that \u201cat least 23 children (were) killed by security forces in November protests \u2013 new evidence.\u201d Additionally, in its\u00a0September 2020\u00a0compressive report, Amnesty highlighted \u201cmass arrests, disappearances, and torture since Iran\u2019s 2019 November protests.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flip side of the coin of repression at home is the export of terrorism against the opposition abroad. The Iranian ambassador and three diplomats were expelled from Albania, and three other diplomats were expelled from France and the Netherlands, for their involvement in terrorist acts against the opposition. In the summer of 2018, Assadollah Assadi<\/a>, an Iranian diplomat who plotted an attack against the gathering of the opposition attended by tens of\u00a0thousands\u00a0of people on the outskirts of Paris, was arrested by German police and extradited to Belgium. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The target of the attack\u00a0were\u00a0Mrs. Maryam Rajavi<\/a>, the President-elect of the\u00a0National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI<\/a>), and a group of top European and American dignitaries who attended the gathering. If the plot\u00a0was\u00a0not discovered and neutralized, the casualties among the attendees would have been significant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On February 4, 2021, after two and a half years of investigations and trial, the Belgian judiciary sentenced Assadi to 20 years in prison<\/a> and his three accomplices between 15 to 18 years in prison. According to the verdict, this major terrorist operation was coordinated in Iran, the bomb was made and tested in Tehran and Assadi transported it to Europe in a diplomatic pouch via a commercial plane.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
