Congressman Don Bacon (R.) is the U.S. Representative for Nebraska\u2019s 2nd congressional district, addressed at the Free Iran World Summit 2021 on July 10, 2021<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/iframe>\n\n\n\nDear Friends at the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/iranfreedom.org\/en\/freeiran-en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2021 Free\u00a0Iran\u00a0Conference<\/a>,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\nI am honored to be here with you today, in this global forum, to declare my support for democracy and human rights in\u00a0Iran\u00a0and express my solidarity with the\u00a0Iranian people.\u00a0Iranians have endured a lot in the last forty years: From brutal suppression and trampling of their basic rights, to losing many of their children during peaceful street protests, and to losing hundreds of thousands of their compatriots to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/coronavirus-in-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">COVID-19<\/a> because of\u00a0the Iranian leader\u2019s indifference and incompetence in dealing with pandemic.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\nI am proud to be one of the original co-sponsors of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-resolution\/118\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">H. Res. 118<\/a>, which expresses\u00a0support for the\u00a0Iranian people\u2019s desire for a democratic, secular, and nonnuclear republic. This resolution has over 240 bipartisan co-sponsors in\u00a0the\u00a0US Congress, which demonstrates the will of the representatives of American people in supporting a democratic\u00a0and free Iran. <\/p>\n\n\n\nAs stated in this resolution,\u00a0tens of thousands of people gathered in Paris at the Free\u00a0Iran\u00a0gathering to show support for the opposition leader\u00a0Mrs. <a href=\"https:\/\/iranfreedom.org\/en\/maryam-rajavi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Maryam Rajavi<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maryam-rajavi.com\/en\/viewpoints\/tomorrow-s-iran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">10-point plan <\/a>for the future of\u00a0Iran, which calls for the universal right to vote, free elections,\u00a0a market economy,\u00a0advocates for gender, religious, and ethnic equality, a foreign policy based on peaceful coexistence, and a nonnuclear\u00a0Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\nThe recent sham election is another indication of the regime\u2019s unabated disregard for the rule of law and democratic process.\u00a0I believe\u00a0US policy\u00a0towards\u00a0Iran\u00a0must be based on our commitment to human and women\u2019s, religious, and minority rights, and our unwavering support for the establishment of a democratic republic in\u00a0Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\nI thank you for the opportunity you gave me to address you today and I wish you the best in your mission to bring about meaningful change in\u00a0Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\nMay God bless you all.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Congressman Don Bacon (R.) is the U.S. Representative for Nebraska\u2019s 2nd congressional district, addressed at the Free Iran World Summit 2021 on July 10, 2021.
