^{International conference in Stockholm calls for prosecution of the mullahs\u2019 regime leaders for their crimes against humanity<\/sup><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\nThe People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK<\/a>) reported on September 21 that an international conference had taken place in Stockholm, Sweden to discuss the need for the Iranian regime officials involved in the mass execution of political prisoners to be finally held accountable for their crimes against humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n<\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/i\/1988-massacre-conference-stockholm-20210921\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MEK said<\/a>, \u201cThe event focused on the extrajudicial and summary execution of more than 30,000 Iranian political prisoners in the summer of 1988, an even that has become known as the \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/iranfreedom.org\/en\/story-of-1988-massacre-in-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1988 massacre<\/a>\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many senior officials within the regime, including the new president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-call-on-international-community-to-prosecute-ebrahim-raisi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ebrahim Raisi<\/a>, played key roles in the atrocities of that fateful summer and have lived the past 33 years under a blanket of impunity, avoiding any accountability for their actions. Raisi was on the panel of judges in the \u2018Death Commission\u2019 in Tehran, who processed political prisoners in minute long trials before sending them to their deaths if they refused to denounce their support of the <a href=\"https:\/\/iranfreedom.org\/en\/peoples-mojahedin-pmoi-mek-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MEK<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Present at the conference were many former political prisoners who served time in some of Iran\u2019s most notorious prisons, witnesses of the <a href=\"https:\/\/iran1988.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1988 massacre<\/a>, as well as a number of prominent politicians from across the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (<a href=\"https:\/\/iranfreedom.org\/en\/national-council-of-resistance-of-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NCRI<\/a>), <a href=\"https:\/\/iranfreedom.org\/en\/maryam-rajavi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Maryam Rajavi<\/a> gave a keynote speech at the event. She said of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/1988-massacre-of-political-prisoners-in-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">30,000 political prisoners who were hanged<\/a> in the summer of 1988, at least 90% of them were members or supporters of the <a href=\"https:\/\/iranfreedom.org\/en\/peoples-mojahedin-pmoi-mek-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MEK<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Message to the meeting of witnesses of Raisi\u2019s crimes in the 1988 massacre, UN urged to investigate\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dP6Tumy9tsk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Maryam Rajavi said, \u201cKhomeini sought to eradicate the PMOI quickly. He wanted to carry out the horrendous massacre in total silence. The plan for the killings in Tehran and dozens of other cities was designed such that no one would know about it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 1988, the NCRI and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iranfocus.com\/en\/iran-general\/33668-a-primer-on-iran-s-mek\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MEK<\/a>, as well as many other groups affiliated with the Iranian Resistance in Iran have taken widespread efforts to document as much information as possible about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/1988-massacre-of-political-prisoners-in-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1988 massacre<\/a>, while revealing the secrets about the atrocities that the regime have tried to cover up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The MEK said, \u201cThese efforts have shed light on one of the horrendous crimes against humanity in contemporary history and have brought international attention to the brutalities committed by the Iranian regime.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At a virtual conference hosted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/about-ncri\/alternative\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NCRI <\/a>last month, international law experts noted that the 1988 massacre constitutes as genocide and called for regime officials to be prosecuted accordingly in international courts.
