Judy Sgro, Member of Parliament and Canadian Minister of Citizenship and Immigration (2003-2005), addressed at the\u00a02nd Day of The Free Iran World Summit on\u00a0July 12, 2021<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/iframe>\n\n\n\nI\u2019m delighted to speak to you today in this very timely <a href=\"https:\/\/iranfreedom.org\/en\/freeiran-en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">conference<\/a>. I am sure that all of you have already heard about Iran\u2019s sham elections and coming to power of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-ebrahim-raisi-a-mass-murderer-for-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ebrahim Raisi<\/a> that has drawn international condemnation for his crimes against humanity over the past 40 years with news headlines calling him the butcher and a mass murder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/iranfreedom.org\/en\/2021\/08\/07\/amnesty-international-crimes-against-humanity-loom-large-over-ebrahim-raisis-inauguration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amnesty International<\/a> said that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/iran-call-on-international-community-to-prosecute-ebrahim-raisi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ebrahim Raisi<\/a> has risen to the presidency instead of being investigated for the crimes against humanity, of murder, enforced disappearance and torture is a grim reminder that impunity reigned supreme in Iran. My good colleague, as well Professor Irwin Cotler, on many occasions has referred to a culture of impunity, reining in communities in Iran and no wonder the Rao Wallander Center for Human Rights in a report published in 2019 named Raisi and a dozen Iranian officials to be sanctioned for gross human rights violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\nIn short, I want to commend and echo the call of the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/1988-massacre-of-political-prisoners-in-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">massacre of political prisoners in Iran in 1988<\/a> and Raisi\u2019s role must be investigated by an international delegation. Since in addition to a crime against humanity, it may account to actual genocide.<\/p>\n\n\n\nBut what strikes me most in this sham election was the overwhelming boycott by various strata of the Iranian society, who hundreds and thousands of online messages said that their vote is to overthrow this tyrannical regime. We, in Canada, of course, had our share of grief from the atrocities of the clearfork regime that, among others, includes the downing of flight 752 buy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/terrorism-a-fundamentalism\/inside-irans-army-of-terror-and-oppression-revolutionary-guards-irgc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IRGC <\/a>missiles, killing 176 people on board, including dozens of Canadians.<\/p>\n\n\n\nBut allow me to speak in a more positive tone. I had the pleasure of speaking at these rallies in person in Paris and many other ones online. I believe the resilience and commitment of <a href=\"https:\/\/iranfreedom.org\/en\/tag\/ashraf-3\/\">Ashraf 3<\/a> residents for free and democratic Iran during these unimaginably difficult times when they were constantly attacked by the Iranian regime militias and rockets. It finally paid off. Indeed, what they showed to the world and to the people of Iran was that by standing by the principles of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.maryam-rajavi.com\/en\/biography\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Madame Rajavi<\/a>\u2018s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maryam-rajavi.com\/en\/viewpoints\/tomorrow-s-iran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">10-point plan<\/a>, sooner or later, responsible actors will have to come and join the rally if they want to avoid the cycle of violence and warmongering. I want to reassure you that we take your plates and your call for change very seriously and wholeheartedly stand by you in your quest for having what we take for granted, of course in Canada, is fundamental human rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\nI am a firm believer that <a href=\"https:\/\/iranfreedom.org\/en\/maryam-rajavi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mrs. Rajavi<\/a>\u2018s 10-point plan put together for Iran is both practical and very much achievable.
