\"European — _{European Parliament Condemns Rising Number of Executions in Iran, MEP\u2019s Urge Probe Into 1988 Massacre<\/sub><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\nOn February 17, a formal session was held by members of the European Parliament to adopt a new resolution<\/a>, which condemns the ever-increasing number of executions that have taken place in Iran at the hands of the Iranian regime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The MEPs in attendance also denounced the regime for the massacre of over 30,000 political prisoners<\/a> that took place in Iran in 1988, and demanded that an international investigation is launched to hold regime officials accountable for their horrific crimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Secretary-General of the European Conservatives and Reformists Party, MEP Anna Fotyga questioned the purpose of the death penalty in Iran, and stated that crimes against humanity, at the hands of regime officials, have been ongoing for the past four decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\"Since 1988, the massacre in #Iran<\/a> is an ongoing crime against humanity. We've been talking about the death penalty, but in many cases it's an extrajudicial crime\u2014a swift execution, carried out without even pretending to hold court proceedings.\"
