In its session on March 22, 2023, the Italian Senate unanimously approved a resolution regarding the Iranian uprising<\/a>, the violation of human and women\u2019s rights by the dictatorship of the mullahs, and its support for the Iranian people\u2019s struggle for freedom and democracy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This resolution presented by the \u201cBrothers of Italy\u201d group states: \u201cFor decades, women and men in Iran have fought with firm determination for freedom, democracy, and respect for human rights. Despite the repression, torture, and execution of thousands of political prisoners, the regime has been unable to silence the resistance of citizens who demand freedom, democracy, and respect for human rights and have risked their lives.\u201d The resolution approved by the Italian Senate also states: \u201cThe security forces, IRGC<\/a>, Basij<\/a>, police, anti-riot police, and uniformed personnel used bullets, tear gas, and batons to suppress the protests.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expressing solidarity with Iranian women and many young men who bravely protest, the resolution emphasizes full support for the aspirations of the Iranian people for democracy, human rights, and fundamental freedoms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this resolution, the Italian Senate commits the Italian government to pressure the mullahs\u2019 regime directly and in multilateral forums to end repression and violence against women, demonstrators, and ethnic and religious minorities, as well as the disruption of the Internet, and to take action to prevent executions and secure the release of arrested protesters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The resolution asks the Italian government to actively monitor the export of arms and ammunition to Iran\u2019s neighboring countries to prevent indirect support for repression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is worth noting that, in his speech during the approval of this resolution, Senator Giulio Terzi<\/a>, the chairman of the European Union Policy Commission in the Senate, once again demanded on behalf of himself and his party to designate the IRGC <\/a>as a terrorist organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
