Iran has called in the French ambassador and lodged a formal protest over a rally outside Paris held by an exiled opposition group last weekend, a diplomatic source said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The National Council of Resistance in Iran (NCRI), which includes the former rebel People\u2019s Mujahedeen of Iran (MEK), claimed that 100,000 Iranians attended an Iranian opposition rally at Le Bourget, near Paris, on Saturday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe holding of this rally by those whose hands are stained with the blood of the Iranian people\u2026 is unacceptable,\u201d said the message handed to French ambassador<\/a> Francois Senemaud by senior foreign ministry official Abolqassem Delfi, state media reported.<\/p>\n

The mullahs also summoned Egypt\u2019s charg\u00e9 d\u2019affaires in Tehran t \u201cstrongly protest\u201d against the presence of Egyptian lawmakers in the Paris Iranian opposition rally which suce of Iran (NCRoI). Accordingpported the National Council of Resistan<\/a>\u00a0to the mullahs, the official parliamentary delegation of Egypt had no right to decide on standing with the Iranian people and its Resistance movement.<\/p>\n

The MEK is reviled by Tehran for siding with Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq war of 1980-88.<\/p>\n

The US State Department listed it as a \u201cterrorist organisation\u201d in 1997.<\/p>\n

After the US-led invasion of 2003, its remaining fighters were disarmed and placed in camps where many of them remain with their families to this day.<\/p>\n

It was removed from terrorist watch lists by the European Union in 2008 and the United States in 2012.<\/p>\n

Iranian government spokesman Mohammad Bagher Nobakht described the NCRI as an \u201cannihilated terrorist group\u201d and a \u201cstinking corpse\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Islamic Republic of Iran will continue to confront this hypocritical little group and will condemn any government\u201d that supports it, he told the official IRNA news agency on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
