\nEbrahim Raisi who was involved in\u00a0extra-judicial killings<\/a>\u00a0of political prisoners in the late 1980s in Iran has been appointed as the Judiciary Chief, replacing\u00a0Sadeq Amoli Larijani<\/a>.<\/div>\n

The head of the Judiciary is appointed directly by the Supreme Leader for a five-year term, which can be renewed.<\/p>\n

Raisi has had a long tenure himself as a judge and that is when he was involved in decisions related to the mass murder of political opponents in prisons in 1988.<\/p>\n

Raisi was a member of Khomeini\u2019s \u2018Death Committee\u2019 in Tehran at that time that sent tens of thousands of political prisoners<\/a>\u00a0to the gallows for refusing to denounce their political affiliation.<\/p>\n

The Death Committees were formed based on a fatwa by Khomeini calling for the elimination of all political prisoners who continued to support the opposition People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran<\/p>\n

CHARGES RELATED TO THE MASSACRE OF POLITICAL PRISONERS IN IRAN IN 1988:<\/strong>
\n1. Raisi was one of the most influential members of the \u201cDeath Committee\u201d in Tehran and along with its other members was responsible for the execution of at least 10,000 political prisoners in Tehran<\/a><\/div>\n
OTHER CHARGES:<\/strong>
\n1- As the president of Tehran Revolutionary Court for political groups, Raissi has been involved in the arrest, torture, and execution of members and supporters of political groups especially the\u00a0MEK\/PMOI.<\/a>\n

2\u2013 Being the chairman of <\/span>Astan Quds Razavi<\/a>, a wealthy and powerful foundation affiliated with the mullahs regime, Raissi is responsible for misusing the wealth of the Iranian people for malign activities of this regime.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\nMany individuals who were in prison during the massacre and closely witnessed Raisi\u2019s role are ready to serve as witnesses and testify in an international court.
