The 1988 massacre<\/a> in Iran saw the execution of thousands of political prisoners, primarily members of the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK<\/a>). These executions were carried out following a fatwa issued by then-Supreme Leader Khomeini, targeting those deemed to be enemies of the state.
