On October 22, 2024, during a debate at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, members underscored the pressing need to confront the Iranian regime\u2019s destabilizing actions in Europe. They called for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC<\/a>) to be officially designated as a terrorist organization.<\/p>\n
The session focused on the growing security threats stemming from Iran\u2019s regime, particularly through its proxies and intelligence networks, which many Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) linked to recent attacks and assassination attempts on European soil.<\/p>\n
**Condemnation of the Iranian Regime<\/strong><\/p>\n**
MEP Javier Zarzalejos<\/strong> was vocal in his condemnation of the Iranian regime, questioning, \u201cCan anyone doubt that the Iranian regime sponsors, promotes, and finances terrorism in Europe?\u201d He referenced the assassination attempt on former European Parliament Vice President Alejo Vidal-Quadras<\/a>, asserting it was orchestrated by \u201chitmen hired by Iran.\u201d Zarzalejos also highlighted Iran\u2019s internal repression, including \u201cexecutions, violence against women, and the suppression of criticism,\u201d accusing Western nations of sending \u201cmessages of impunity to the Ayatollahs\u2019 regime.\u201d He characterized Iran as \u201cRussia\u2019s partner and ally in its aggression against Ukraine\u201d and noted its influence over groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis. Zarzalejos urged the EU to adopt a firmer stance against Tehran.<\/p>\n
