Maryam Rajavi Calls on Ireland to Back Iranian People\u2019s Uprising Against Theocratic Regime<\/h2>\n

In a compelling address<\/a> to a virtual conference with members of both houses of the Irish Parliament, Maryam Rajavi<\/a>, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI<\/a>), presented a stark picture of the human rights crisis in Iran and urged Irish lawmakers to support the Iranian people\u2019s ongoing struggle for freedom and democracy.<\/p>\n

Speaking on behalf of the Iranian Resistance, Mrs. Rajavi<\/a> condemned the clerical regime as a major global threat\u2014responsible for widespread repression, economic collapse, executions, regional destabilization, and its relentless pursuit of nuclear weapons. She pointed to the recent deadly explosion at Iran\u2019s largest port in Bandar Abbas as a direct result of the regime\u2019s militarism and disregard for civilian lives.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Rajavi highlighted the sharp rise in executions\u201422 in just three days in April\u2014and recalled the 1988 massacre<\/a> of 30,000 political prisoners, a crime now recognized by UN experts as genocide. She emphasized that the regime\u2019s survival hinges on suppression and violence, including its systematic targeting of members and supporters of the PMOI<\/a> (People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran), the principal opposition force.<\/p>\n

Outlining a clear alternative, Mrs. Rajavi described the NCRI as a diverse, democratic coalition<\/a> that represents the will of the Iranian people. With over 50% of its members being women, the NCRI supports gender equality, ethnic autonomy, religious freedom, abolition of the death penalty, and a non-nuclear, secular republic. Its platform includes a transitional plan for democratic governance post-regime change\u2014through elections, a new constitution, and peaceful power transfer.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Rajavi appealed to the Irish Parliament to officially support the Iranian people\u2019s resistance, just as many Irish senators did in a previous statement. Quoting Theobald Wolfe Tone, she concluded by echoing the Irish spirit of resistance: \u201cOur cause is the cause of liberty\u2014it is the cause of mankind.\u201d<\/p>\n
