Supporters of the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK<\/a>) gathered in both Ottawa<\/em> and *Toronto<\/em> to honor the victims of the recent deadly explosion in\u00a0**Bandar Abbas<\/a>, Iran. Participants held placards, lit candles, and chanted in solidarity with the families of the workers who lost their lives, expressing deep sorrow and condemnation.<\/p>\n*
<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The demonstrators accused the Iranian regime and its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (<a href=\"https:\/\/iranfreedom.org\/en\/articles\/2023\/04\/irans-regime-irgc-a-state-sponsored-terrorist-organization\/44858\/\" rel=\"\">IRGC<\/a>) of responsibility for the disaster, citing decades of mismanagement, corruption, and repression. They demanded full transparency and accountability, urging the international community\u2014especially the European Union, following the example of the U.S. and Canada\u2014to designate the <a href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/i\/look-irans-revolutionary-guards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IRGC<\/a> as a terrorist organization.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1317\" data-end=\"1720\">In addition to mourning, the rallies reaffirmed support for the Iranian people\u2019s broader struggle for freedom and democracy. Protesters called for the establishment of a democratic republic in Iran, free from both clerical and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/society\/who-was-mohammad-reza-pahlavi-shah-irans-last-pahlavi-dictator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">monarchical<\/a> rule, and voiced their endorsement of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (<a href=\"https:\/\/iranfreedom.org\/en\/national-council-of-resistance-of-iran\/\" rel=\"\">NCRI<\/a>)\u00a0as the only viable and democratic alternative to the current regime.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1722\" data-end=\"1916\">Participants also expressed strong support for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maryam-rajavi.com\/en\/biography\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryam Rajavi<\/a>\u2018s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.maryam-rajavi.com\/en\/viewpoints\/tomorrow-s-iran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">10-point plan<\/a>, which envisions a secular, pluralistic, and democratic Iran based on universal human rights and the rule of law.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2112\" data-end=\"2482\">The Iranian communities in <em>Ottawa<\/em> and <em>Toronto<\/em> also called for the immediate cancellation of death sentences issued against political prisoners, particularly <a href=\"https:\/\/iran-hrm.com\/2025\/04\/23\/two-political-prisoners-face-imminent-execution-in-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">those facing imminent execution<\/a>. They demanded a complete abolition of the death penalty in Iran and called for the prosecution of the regime\u2019s leaders in an international tribunal for crimes against humanity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1918\" data-end=\"2146\">Finally, attendees urged international bodies to recognize the Iranian people\u2019s right to resist tyranny and called for formal acknowledgment of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/t\/iranian-resistance-units\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MEK Resistance Units<\/a><strong data-start=\"2066\" data-end=\"2091\">\u2019<\/strong> right to self-defense in their pursuit of a free Iran.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73199\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73199\" style=\"width: 1000px\"
