Maryam Rajavi\u2019s Speech at the European Parliament \u2013 Strasbourg, June 18, 2025<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
On June 18, 2025, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi<\/a>, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI<\/a>), addressed the European Parliament<\/a> in Strasbourg in a significant conference titled *\u201cBuilding a Genuine, Modern Democracy.\u201d<\/em> Her speech marked a pivotal moment in international support for the Iranian people\u2019s struggle for freedom and democratic change.<\/p>\n*
<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"688\" data-end=\"1264\">Addressing Members of the European Parliament and international dignitaries, <a href=\"https:\/\/iranfreedom.org\/en\/maryam-rajavi\/\" rel=\"\">Mrs. Rajavi<\/a> expressed her gratitude for their solidarity with the Iranian Resistance and their commitment to human rights. She began by underlining the critical moment facing Iran and the region, emphasizing that the fundamental conflict is not recent\u2014it has persisted for 44 years, since June 20, 1981. This ongoing struggle is between the Iranian people and the ruling theocratic regime, and its only solution, she argued, is the regime\u2019s overthrow by the people of Iran and their organized resistance.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1266\" data-end=\"1739\">Mrs. Rajavi addressed Iran\u2019s nuclear issue, stating that despite repeated calls to abandon the nuclear program and negotiate, Supreme Leader <a href=\"https:\/\/iranfreedom.org\/en\/articles\/2020\/10\/who-is-ali-khamenei-iranian-regime-supreme-leader\/19254\/\" rel=\"\">Ali Khamenei<\/a> remains committed to pursuing nuclear weapons. He views them as essential to the regime\u2019s survival and dominance in the region. This strategy, she warned, comes at the expense of the Iranian people, who are subjected to war, terror, and repression. Yet, she declared, the people of Iran will no longer tolerate this tyranny.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Speech at the European Parliament- Strasbourg<br>Today, from the home of the peoples of Europe, a unified voice was heard in support of the people of Iran, the Iranian Resistance, and the network of Resistance Units in Iran. That voice declared that the only solution to this crisis\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/CyF5WJtcnk\">pic.twitter.com\/CyF5WJtcnk<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Maryam Rajavi (@Maryam_Rajavi) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Maryam_Rajavi\/status\/1935344180332482854?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 18, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1741\" data-end=\"2046\">In her remarks, Rajavi also honored the approaching anniversary of the nationwide resistance against religious fascism and paid tribute to the martyrs and political prisoners of Iran. She described their sacrifices as both tragic and heroic, symbols of a society determined not to bow to authoritarianism.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2048\" data-end=\"2462\">The increasing use of executions was another focal point of her speech. Since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/who-is-masoud-pezeshkian\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pezeshkian <\/a>assumed office, over 1,350 prisoners have been executed, with 650 in 2025 alone\u20142.5 times more than the same period the previous year. At least 60 political prisoners now face death sentences, primarily for their affiliation with the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (<a href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/about-iranian-opposition-pmoi-mek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PMOI<\/a>) and their advocacy for a democratic society.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2464\" data-end=\"2742\">Rajavi also condemned the clerical regime\u2019s broader campaign of intimidation, including a mass trial in absentia of 104 PMOI members. She emphasized that these actions aim to terrorize young Iranians, suppress the growing <a href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/t\/iranian-resistance-units\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Resistance Units<\/a>, and facilitate terrorist plots abroad.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2744\" data-end=\"2981\">Despite brutal repression, Rajavi asserted that the movement for democratic change remains unbroken. Citing <a href=\"https:\/\/english.mojahedin.org\/massoud-rajavi-biography\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Massoud Rajavi<\/a>, the Resistance\u2019s leader, she proclaimed that Iranians are preparing for the final battle to overthrow the regime.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2983\" data-end=\"3431\">Maryam Rajavi then introduced the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.maryam-rajavi.com\/en\/regime-change-in-iran\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Third Option<\/a>\u201d\u2014a strategic vision the <a href=\"https:\/\/iranfreedom.org\/en\/national-council-of-resistance-of-iran\/\" rel=\"\">NCRI<\/a> has promoted for over two decades. This path rejects both appeasement of the regime and foreign military intervention. Instead, it supports democratic change driven by the Iranian people and their organized resistance. She presented the NCRI\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maryam-rajavi.com\/en\/viewpoints\/tomorrow-s-iran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ten-point plan<\/a>, originally introduced at the Council of Europe in 2006, as a roadmap for Iran\u2019s democratic future. It includes:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3433\" data-end=\"3643\">\n<li data-start=\"3433\" data-end=\"3493\">\n<p data-start=\"3435\" data-end=\"3493\">A republic based on the separation of religion and state<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3494\" data-end=\"3513\">\n<p data-start=\"3496\" data-end=\"3513\">Gender equality<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3514\" data-end=\"3542\">\n<p data-start=\"3516\" data-end=\"3542\">Ethnic minority autonomy<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3543\" data-end=\"3577\">\n<p data-start=\"3545\" data-end=\"3577\">Abolition of the death penalty<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3578\" data-end=\"3603\">\n<p data-start=\"3580\" data-end=\"3603\">Judicial independence<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3604\" data-end=\"3643\">\n<p data-start=\"3606\" data-end=\"3643\">A non-nuclear Iran committed to peace<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"3645\" data-end=\"3719\">Rajavi elaborated on four foundational elements of this democratic vision:<\/p>\n<ol data-start=\"3721\" data-end=\"4898\">\n<li data-start=\"3721\" data-end=\"3984\">\n<p data-start=\"3724\" data-end=\"3984\"><strong data-start=\"3724\" data-end=\"3758\">Establishing Genuine Democracy<\/strong>:<br data-start=\"3759\" data-end=\"3762\">A future Iran must be built on popular sovereignty and the people\u2019s right to shape their destiny through direct participation. Governance should be democratic at all levels, and no authority should hold unchecked power.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3986\" data-end=\"4271\">\n<p data-start=\"3989\" data-end=\"4271\"><strong data-start=\"3989\" data-end=\"4016\">Pluralism and Inclusion<\/strong>:<br data-start=\"4017\" data-end=\"4020\">Rajavi emphasized the necessity of managing political diversity through democratic norms. She affirmed that all political, ethnic, religious, and cultural identities must be fully respected, protected, and allowed to thrive under equal citizenship.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4273\" data-end=\"4538\">\n<p data-start=\"4276\" data-end=\"4538\"><strong data-start=\"4276\" data-end=\"4301\">Democratic Transition<\/strong>:<br data-start=\"4302\" data-end=\"4305\">After the regime\u2019s fall, a provisional government\u2014limited to six months\u2014will oversee the organization of free elections for a Constituent Assembly. This body will draft a new constitution and appoint a new, accountable government.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4540\" data-end=\"4898\">\n<p data-start=\"4543\" data-end=\"4898\"><strong data-start=\"4543\" data-end=\"4581\">Resistance Capabilities and Vision<\/strong>:<br data-start=\"4582\" data-end=\"4585\">Rajavi pointed to the Resistance\u2019s long-standing organization, financial independence, and network of thousands of Resistance Units in Iran. <a href=\"https:\/\/iranfreedom.org\/en\/articles\/2019\/08\/ashraf-3-home-to-iranian-opposition-group-mek-in-albania\/12507\/\" rel=\"\">Ashraf 3<\/a> in Albania, home to <a href=\"https:\/\/iranfreedom.org\/en\/peoples-mojahedin-pmoi-mek-iran\/\" rel=\"\">PMOI<\/a> members including 1,000 women leaders, exemplifies this readiness. With the slogan <em data-start=\"5006\" data-end=\"5044\">\u201cNo to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/news\/society\/who-was-mohammad-reza-pahlavi-shah-irans-last-pahlavi-dictator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shah<\/a>, No to the Mullahs,\u201d<\/em> the movement represents a clear break from dictatorship and a commitment to genuine democracy.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5141\" data-end=\"5461\">Rajavi concluded by calling on the European Parliament to take the lead in supporting the Iranian people\u2019s right to resist tyranny.
