\u00a0<\/strong>Getting to know The People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

The People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK) is the largest and the most organized Iranian opposition group.<\/p>\n

The MEK was established in 1965 and had a key role in the overthrow of the Shah\u2019s monarchic dictatorship.<\/p>\n

The MEK rejected the principle of the \u201cVelayat-e faqih, therefore, it didn\u2019t vote for the regime\u2019s constitution in spite of the fact that being in camaraderie with Khomeini, the then Supreme Leader could have paved the way for them to gain a magnificent share in power. The MEK refused to participate in the referendum on the new constitution which was planned to fortify the legitimacy of the rule of a theocratic fascism. As a result, the peaceful political and revealing activities of the MEK were confronted with violence by the Khomeini\u2019s agents and the plainclothes; the members and offices of the MEK underwent routine attacks.<\/p>\n
