In a bold act of solidarity from behind bars, 419 political detainees across 63 prisons in Iran\u2014joined by 323 recently freed activists\u2014released a powerful joint statement honoring the 60th anniversary of the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK<\/a>). Smuggled out of Tehran\u2019s Evin Prison, Karaj\u2019s Ghezel Hesar, and facilities in Tabriz, Isfahan, Shiraz, Ahvaz, among others, this message underscores the unyielding spirit of resistance that persists despite decades of brutal repression.
\nThe statement celebrates the \u201cheroic people of Iran,\u201d the Resistance Units<\/a>, and the courageous youth across the nation. It emphasizes that the PMOI<\/a> remains the heart of the democratic opposition, steadfast even under the harshest conditions.<\/p>\n
Prisoners\u2014some who\u2019ve endured over 20 years behind bars, others newly arrested, and some on death row\u2014joined forces to declare: \u201cWe pledge to God, the people, and the PMOI to remain steadfast and militant\u2026 We will not take a single step back\u2026 until our last breath.\u201d<\/p>\n
By emerging from prisons across 63 cities, their coordinated declaration belies the regime\u2019s attempts to marginalize the opposition. In their words, the greatest threat to the clerical dictatorship is embodied in a single name: the PMOI.<\/p>\n
Rejecting both the religious regime and the former monarchy as two forms of tyranny, they highlighted a \u201cunholy alliance\u201d that endures to this day. Quoting a Khamenei-linked faction that described monarchist activity as \u201can opportunity\u201d for the regime, they underscored the importance of democratic transition over power struggles.<\/p>\n
Concluding with a vivid metaphor, the prisoners likened the PMOI\u2019s founders to those who planted a sapling six decades ago that has now become a mighty tree\u2014one poised to uproot the foundations of tyranny. This powerful testament from within Iran\u2019s prisons is a clear sign that the fight for a free, democratic, and secular republic remains vibrant and resolute.<\/p>\n
