Former U.S. Congressman Patrick Kennedy spoke at the Free Iran rally in Brussels<\/a>, commending the People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI\/MEK<\/a>) for six decades of sacrifice and urging decisive international measures against Tehran.<\/p>\n
In a heartfelt message to residents of Ashraf 3<\/a>, he expressed gratitude for their \u201cpersonal witness to freedom\u201d and highlighted the movement\u2019s perseverance: \u201cEvery year, the MEK<\/a> has been tortured, jailed, and killed. But has that stopped the MEK? No, it hasn\u2019t.\u201d Kennedy emphasized that the group has resisted both the Shah<\/a>\u2019s secret police and the regime\u2019s security forces, symbolizing \u201chope for a brighter future for a free Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n
Warning against concessions to Tehran, he declared, \u201cAppeasement never brings security. Appeasement allows tyranny to thrive.\u201d He called on Europe and the U.S. to \u201cintensify sanctions, hold the IRGC<\/a> accountable, and rally free nations against the mullahs\u2019 oppression.\u201d<\/p>\n
Framing the struggle as a universal cause, Kennedy stated, \u201cThis isn\u2019t just an Iranian issue. This is a human rights issue, and we are all human beings.\u201d Concluding emotionally, he invoked his uncle\u2019s famous 1963 Berlin speech: \u201cPresident Kennedy said, \u2018Ich bin ein Berliner.\u2019 Today, as his nephew, I proudly say, \u2018Man Irani hastam\u2019 \u2014 I am Iranian.\u201d<\/p>\n
