Ottawa, October 29, 2025<\/strong> \u2014 Canada\u2019s Parliament hosted a cross-party conference titled \u201cIran at a Crossroads: Geopolitical Shifts and Human Rights Realities,\u201d<\/em> gathering Members of Parliament, U.S. Senator Robert Torricelli, and representatives of the Iranian-Canadian community.<\/p>\n

Focus on Human Rights Abuses in Iran<\/h3>\n

The conference, organized by Liberal MP Judy Sgro<\/strong> and Conservative MP Michael Cooper<\/strong>, highlighted Iran\u2019s worsening human-rights situation and the need for a democratic alternative to the current regime. MP Cooper cited a surge in executions\u2014over 1,000 in the first nine months of 2025\u2014alongside rising poverty, inflation, and power shortages. He emphasized Canada\u2019s support for opposition leader Maryam Rajavi<\/a> and her Ten-Point Plan<\/a> as a roadmap for democratic reform.<\/p>\n
