A high-level international conference held in Geneva<\/strong> on November 20, 2025<\/strong>, issued an urgent call for the United Nations Security Council to take up Iran\u2019s human rights dossier. Convened amid a sharp rise in state-sanctioned executions and following a landmark UN Third Committee resolution, the gathering brought together European lawmakers, former UN rapporteurs, legal experts, and Iranian activists. Speakers denounced Tehran\u2019s \u201ckilling machine\u201d and emphasized that appeasement has failed, advocating instead for a \u201cThird Option<\/a>\u201d: supporting the Iranian people and their organized resistance.<\/p>\n

Maryam Rajavi: A Regime at War with Its Own People<\/h3>\n

In her keynote address<\/a>, Maryam Rajavi<\/a>, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI<\/a>), described Iran\u2019s execution surge as part of a strategic war by a fragile dictatorship. She revealed that 1,650 executions<\/strong> have taken place in 2025 alone, with thousands more at risk, including political prisoners such as Zahra Tabari and Mohammad Javad Vafaei Sani.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Rajavi <\/a>welcomed the UN Third Committee\u2019s recent resolution referencing the 1988 massacre<\/a> and connected it to former UN Special Rapporteur Javaid Rehman\u2019s 2024 report<\/a> classifying the killings as genocide. She stressed that repression, regional destabilization, and nuclear expansion constitute a unified strategy of the regime.<\/p>\n

Calling for decisive international action, Mrs. Rajavi demanded that the UN free human rights mechanisms from \u201ccommerce and appeasement,\u201d refer Iran\u2019s human rights case to the Security Council, and secure access for UN officials to Iranian prisons. She concluded with a stark warning: the fate of notorious prisons like Evin will mirror the downfall of brutal institutions worldwide.<\/p>\n
