At a <\/span>February 7, 2026 rally at the Brandenburg Gate<\/span><\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Peter Altmaier<\/span><\/span> praised the \u201cheroes and heroines\u201d of Iran\u2019s January uprising and told Iranians in exile that they \u201cbelong with us,\u201d describing the diaspora as \u201cthe best ambassadors for Iran.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The former German minister recalled the fall of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi<\/span><\/span><\/a> and said hopes for a democratic future were \u201ccruelly disappointed,\u201d arguing that the current clerical establishment has \u201clost all legitimacy.\u201d Addressing Western governments directly, he said expectations that the Iranian regime would \u201cmodernize\u201d or become more \u201chumane\u201d were misguided, stressing the need for change \u201ctoward freedom and democracy,\u201d in line with the\u00a0Ten-Point Plan<\/a> proposed by Maryam Rajavi<\/span><\/span><\/a> of the National Council of Resistance of Iran<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Altmaier welcomed the European Union<\/span><\/span> move to list the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps<\/span><\/span> as an initial step, called for tougher and expanded sanctions, and urged international media to devote more coverage to developments inside Iran, describing it as a vital lifeline.<\/p>\n

He concluded with a message of encouragement to Iranians: \u201cDo not despair. You shall overcome.\u201d<\/p>\n
