In the 109th week<\/a> of the \u201cNo to Execution Tuesdays<\/a>\u201d campaign, political prisoners across 56 prisons in Iran launched a coordinated hunger strike on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, protesting the sharp rise in executions and the issuance of death sentences against detained protesters.<\/p>\n

The campaign, which has steadily expanded nationwide, warns of a dramatic escalation in executions over the past month and calls for urgent international intervention to stop what it describes as a growing wave of state repression.<\/p>\n

Hunger Strike Expands to 56 Prisons Nationwide<\/h3>\n

Marking its 109th consecutive week, the \u201cNo to Execution Tuesdays\u201d campaign reported that prisoners in 56 facilities joined the hunger strike, including wards in Evin, Qezelhesar, Greater Tehran, Urmia, Adelabad Shiraz, Vakilabad Mashhad, Zahedan, and dozens of other prisons across the country.<\/p>\n

The coordinated protest coincides with the 40th-day memorial ceremonies for victims of the Dey 1404 (January 2026) uprising. According to the campaign\u2019s statement, these ceremonies\u2014held in various cities\u2014have become symbols of continued resistance and public solidarity against dictatorship.<\/p>\n

Campaign members expressed solidarity with the families of those killed during the recent protests and praised university students\u2014from Sharif, Tehran, Amirkabir, Art, National (Melli), and Mashhad universities\u2014for standing against repression. They called on the public to support students and warned against escalating crackdowns on academic institutions.<\/p>\n
