In an article published in the *Daily Express<\/em><\/a> on March 16, 2026, former House of Commons Speaker John Bercow contends that* Mojtaba Khamenei<\/a>\u2019s recent appointment as Supreme Leader reflects a regime that has reached a \u201cdead end.\u201d In the aftermath of Ali Khamenei\u2019s killing<\/a>, Bercow characterizes this unprecedented father-to-son succession since 1979 not as a display of stability, but as a last-ditch effort to prevent another wave of nationwide unrest.<\/p>\n
He rejects the idea of reinstating the monarchy under Reza Pahlavi, calling it \u201crecycled authority\u201d devoid of genuine democratic legitimacy. Instead, Bercow identifies the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI<\/a>) as a viable and organized alternative capable of steering a political transition.
