MEPs: Iran\u2019s agents are a major threat for the MEK in Albania<\/strong><\/p>\n

On October 17, 2018, ten senior members of the European Parliament have issued a statement covering the Iranian regime\u2019s terrorist plots and demonizing campaign targeting the Iranian opposition\u00a0People\u2019s Mojahedin Organization of Iran<\/a>\u00a0(PMOI\/MEK), especially their members in Albania.<\/p>\n

This statement calls on the European Union to blacklist\u00a0the Iranian regime\u2019s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS)<\/a>\u00a0for its undeniable role in Tehran\u2019s terrorism. According to an EU statement issued back in April 1997, \u201c\u2019visas [should] not be granted to Iranians with intelligence and security functions\u2019 and \u2018Iranian intelligence personnel from European Union Member States should be expelled.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Accordingly, we underscore the following:<\/p>\n

1. Given its undisputed role in terrorism, the\u00a0Iranian Intelligence Ministry should be placed on the European Union\u2019s terrorism list and the U.S.\u2019s Foreign Terrorist Organizations list<\/b>.<\/p>\n

2. Consistent with the Council of European Union ratification in April 1997, \u201cvisas [should] not be granted to Iranians with intelligence and security functions\u201d and \u201cIranian intelligence personnel from European Union Member States should be expelled<\/b>.\u201d<\/p>\n

3. The regime\u2019s agents pose a major threat to Iranian dissidents in Albania. These agents work under various pretexts, especially as journalists.\u00a0The most urgent step in protecting these refugees is to expel Tehran\u2019s intelligence operatives by the Albanian Government<\/b>. Experience has shown that when the spies and agents of Iran are tolerated, the host countries\u2019 security would be jeopardized.<\/p>\n

The MEPs end with putting forward their demands, which are as follows<\/p>\n
