Political prisoners and prisoners of conscience in 57 prisons across Iran have launched the 127th week<\/a> of the <\/span>\u201c<\/span>No to Execution Tuesdays<\/a>\u201d <\/span>campaign with a hunger strike, protesting the country\u2019s ongoing execution spree, widespread repression, and escalating human rights violations.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The strike began on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, as the Iranian judiciary continues to intensify pressure on political detainees and protesters by opening hundreds of new cases and expanding the use of death sentences as a tool of intimidation and suppression.<\/p>\n

The prisoners are demanding the complete abolition of the death penalty and are protesting the systematic violation of human dignity, including the denial of families\u2019 right to know the burial locations of their executed loved ones.<\/p>\n

Continued Expansion of Executions and Repression in Iran<\/h3>\n

The statement of the \u201cNo to Execution Tuesdays\u201d campaign warns that the government\u2019s execution and repression apparatus continues unabated, with political prisoners and prisoners convicted of ordinary crimes facing executions across the country.<\/p>\n

According to the campaign statement, the judiciary has announced that 3,292 people have been arrested since the beginning of the recent war on charges of \u201ccooperating with the enemy.\u201d These figures come amid a broader crackdown following the suppression of nationwide protests in January 2026, during which many detainees reportedly face the possibility of death sentences or lengthy prison terms.<\/p>\n

The Prosecutor of Sari has stated that 700 cases have been opened against protesters in the city, while Alamolhoda, the Friday Prayer Leader of Mashhad, has referred to thousands of cases filed against those arrested during the January uprising.<\/p>\n

140 Executions Recorded in One Month<\/h3>\n

The campaign statement reports that at least 140 people were executed during the Iranian month of Khordad this year (May 22 to June 21), highlighting what it describes as the Iranian government\u2019s continued use of executions as a means of repression and creating fear in society.<\/p>\n

Thousands of families across Iran continue to mourn loved ones who have been executed through what the campaign describes as an inhumane process. Many families have also been deprived of the right to know where their relatives were buried.<\/p>\n

Families Denied the Right to Mourn Their Loved Ones<\/h3>\n

The campaign highlighted the painful question raised by families of executed prisoners: \u201cWhere is my son\u2019s grave?\u201d<\/p>\n

This question was voiced by the father of Vahid Bani Amerian, a political prisoner executed at Qezelhesar Prison in March\u2013April 2026 along with five other political prisoners, as well as by other families whose loved ones\u2019 bodies were not returned.<\/p>\n

The campaign states that withholding burial information represents continued punishment after death and a violation of basic human dignity, preventing families from mourning and seeking justice.<\/p>\n

Prisoners Continue Their Protest Against the Death Penalty<\/h3>\n

Despite growing pressure and repression, participants in the \u201cNo to Execution Tuesdays\u201d campaign have vowed to continue their weekly protests. Every Tuesday, prisoners across Iran go on hunger strike to demand the abolition of the death penalty and call for freedom, justice, and equality.<\/p>\n

The campaign\u2019s 127th week of hunger strike on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, is being held in the following 57 prisons:<\/p>\n

Evin Prison (women\u2019s and men\u2019s wards), Qezelhesar Prison (units 2, 3, and 4), Karaj Central Prison, Fardis Prison in Karaj, Greater Tehran Prison, Qarchak Prison, Khorin Prison in Varamin, Choobindar Prison in Qazvin, Ahar Prison, Arak Prison, Langaroud Prison in Qom, Khorramabad Prison, Borujerd Prison, Yasuj Prison, Asadabad Prison in Isfahan, Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan, Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz, Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz (women\u2019s and men\u2019s wards), Nezam Prison in Shiraz, Adelabad Prison in Shiraz (women\u2019s and men\u2019s wards), Firozabad Prison in Fars, Dehdasht Prison, Zahedan Prison (women\u2019s and men\u2019s wards), Borazjan Prison, Ramhormoz Prison, Behbahan Prison, Bam Prison, Yazd Prison (women\u2019s and men\u2019s wards), Kahnuj Prison, Tabas Prison, Birjand Central Prison, Mashhad Prison, Gorgan Prison, Sabzevar Prison, Gonbad-e Kavus Prison, Qaemshahr Prison, Rasht Prison (men\u2019s and women\u2019s wards), Rudsar Prison, Haviq Prison in Talesh, Azbaram Prison in Lahijan, Dizel Abad Prison in Kermanshah, Ardabil Prison, Tabriz Prison, Urmia Prison, Salmas Prison, Khoy Prison, Naqadeh Prison, Miandoab Prison, Mahabad Prison, Bukan Prison, Saqqez Prison, Baneh Prison, Marivan Prison, Sanandaj Prison, Kamyaran Prison, Ilam Prison, and Kerman Prison.<\/p>\n
