Spanish senator renews support for Iran\u2019s democratic movement at the Free Iran 2026 Summit.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Speaking at the Free Iran 2026 World Summit<\/a> in Paris on June 21, Spanish Senator \u00cd\u00f1igo Fern\u00e1ndez Garc\u00eda reaffirmed the commitment of lawmakers in Spain to supporting democratic change in Iran. Delivering remarks on behalf of himself and Senator Isabel Moreno, he expressed solidarity with Mrs. Maryam Rajavi and described her Ten-Point Plan as a roadmap for Iran\u2019s democratic future.<\/p>\n
Fern\u00e1ndez Garc\u00eda pointed to a resolution adopted by the Spanish Senate in February 2025, noting that it endorses the protection of human rights, gender equality, and the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) as a framework for democratic transition. He also announced that he and fellow lawmakers are working with the leadership of the Senate\u2019s Foreign Affairs Committee to invite Mrs. Rajavi to address the chamber in the near future.<\/p>\n
The Spanish senator argued that developments in Iran have implications far beyond the region, describing democratic change in the country as an important element of international security. He criticized Tehran\u2019s policies, citing its regional activities, support for militant groups, and nuclear ambitions as major sources of instability in the Middle East.<\/p>\n
Contrasting the current governing system with the aspirations of younger generations in Iran, Fern\u00e1ndez Garc\u00eda said the country\u2019s future should be built on democratic values and modern governance. He concluded by pledging that Spanish lawmakers would continue to support the Iranian opposition and expressed hope that they would one day stand alongside the Iranian people in a free Tehran.<\/p>\n

First of all, sorry because it\u2019s my first speech in English in my life.<\/p>\n<p>I think everything has been said during yesterday and during this evening. But I want to tell you three words more, in the name of Isabel, Spanish Senator from Melilla, and in my own name, Spanish Senator from Cantabria.<\/p>\n<p>Maryam Rajavi, we are here because of you. We are here because we believe in you.<\/p>\n<p>We are here because we believe in your words, in your work, in you as a solution for the Iranian people.<\/p>\n<p>We are here today, and we will be here with you the next year, and the next year, and in the future, forever.<\/p>\n<p>We are here with you today, and in the future, we will be with you in Tehran.<\/p>\n<p>This paper is a resolution of the Spanish Senate. It is from February 2025. It talked about Iran. It talked about human rights. It talked about freedom.<\/p>\n<p>It talked about the role of the European Union in support of the democratic opposition in Iran. It talked about women\u2019s rights. It talked about ending executions in Iran.<\/p>\n<p>And specifically, it talks about the Ten-Point Plan of Maryam Rajavi as a solution for the Iranian people.<\/p>\n<p>But we don\u2019t stop here. We don\u2019t stop with this resolution.<\/p>\n<p>In the next weeks, we want to talk with all the parties in Spain in order to invite Maryam Rajavi to talk to us in the Spanish Senate.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday we were talking about this with Pilar Rojo. She is the president of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Senate. We are talking about inviting you.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s very important for us because we are parliamentarians. We need to be understood by our citizens. We have to explain to them what we are doing and why.<\/p>\n<p>And we need you in Spain, to talk to the people of Spain.<\/p>\n<p>This resolution talks about human rights, democracy, and freedom, like in Venezuela, for example. We were working about Venezuela from Spain. But on this point, there is a difference with Venezuela.<\/p>\n<p>Everybody wants freedom. But in the Iranian case, it\u2019s freedom, but it\u2019s security for all of us. But we are thinking of peace; we are thinking of security. We are thinking of our own security, too. And this is very important for public opinion in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>The Iranian regime is the primary enemy of stability in the Middle East. The Iranian regime is one of the most important problems for peace in the world.<\/p>\n<p>The Iranian regime sends money to terrorist groups. The Iranian regime wants to have atomic bombs. We have to do something to stop this danger for all of us.<\/p>\n<p>Somebody said yesterday, people want to choose. People in Iran want to choose. In all the world, people want to choose.<\/p>\n<p>People want to choose between the past and the future. People want to choose between living in the Middle Ages or living in the 21st century.<\/p>\n<p>All the young people in this hall want to live in the 21st century. All the people in Albania want to live in the 21st century.<\/p>\n<p>We want to see the future, not to live in the Middle Ages like some people want.<\/p>\n<p>To finish, Maryam Rajavi, the Iranian people ask for you. The Iranian people need you.<\/p>\n<p>All the democratic people in the world ask for you. All the democratic people in the world need you.<\/p>\n<p>You are not alone. We are here with you, all of us.
