Speaking at an international conference<\/a> hosted by Italy\u2019s Chamber of Deputies, Fabio Rampelli, Vice President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies<\/strong> and a senior figure in the ruling Fratelli d\u2019Italia<\/em> party, reaffirmed Italy\u2019s commitment to supporting accountability for human rights abuses in Iran and standing with the Iranian people\u2019s democratic aspirations.<\/p>\n
Rampelli argued that the Iranian regime is facing growing internal challenges, citing nationwide protests as evidence of deep public dissatisfaction driven by economic hardship, soaring inflation, and political repression. He criticized the authorities\u2019 violent response to peaceful demonstrations, accusing security forces, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (***IRGC<\/a>), of systematically suppressing dissent.<\/p>\n***
He also highlighted a series of bipartisan resolutions adopted by the Italian Parliament, which call on the government to promote international investigations into human rights violations, seek the suspension of executions, and strengthen targeted sanctions against individuals responsible for repression. According to Rampelli, the European Union\u2019s sanctions\u2014extended through 2027\u2014are designed to hold regime officials and the IRGC accountable while avoiding harm to the Iranian population or restricting access to essential humanitarian goods.<\/p>\n
Addressing broader regional security concerns, Rampelli condemned Tehran\u2019s role in fueling instability through its backing of armed groups, military cooperation with rogue states, and activities threatening international maritime security.
