Tuesday, September 1, 2026 \u2014<\/strong> In the 136th consecutive week<\/a> of the \u201cNo to Execution Tuesdays<\/a>\u201d\u00a0campaign, prisoners in 62 prisons across Iran staged a hunger strike on Tuesday, September 1, to once again protest the issuance and implementation of death sentences.<\/p>\n

Iranshahr Prison Joins the No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign<\/h2>\n

After three years of continuous activity, the No to Execution Tuesdays campaign has grown far beyond a protest confined to a handful of prisons. It has become one of the most widespread and sustained organized protest movements inside Iran\u2019s prisons against the death penalty.<\/p>\n

As part of this continuing expansion, Iranshahr Prison in Sistan and Baluchestan Province has joined the campaign, bringing the total number of participating prisons to 62.<\/p>\n

The gradual increase in the number of participating prisons reflects the growing demand among prisoners to halt executions and the transformation of this demand into a sustained and collective protest.<\/p>\n

Weekly Hunger Strikes Continue Despite Security Pressure<\/h2>\n

The prisoners\u2019 weekly hunger strikes continue under conditions of intensified security pressure. Participants have faced threats, restrictions on communication with the outside world, and punitive measures.<\/p>\n

Despite these pressures, the campaign has continued without interruption. Every Tuesday, prisoners stage hunger strikes to voice their opposition to the death penalty and affirm the right to life.<\/p>\n

After 136 consecutive weeks, and with participation expanding to 62 prisons, the No to Execution Tuesdays campaign has become one of the longest-running and most widespread forms of collective protest by prisoners in Iran against executions.<\/p>\n

Continued Repression and Growing Pressure on Political Prisoners<\/h2>\n

In this week\u2019s statement, the prisoners pointed to the continued issuance and implementation of death sentences against protesters, the ongoing repression, and mounting pressure on political prisoners.<\/p>\n

They once again stressed the urgent need to oppose the death penalty and called for the expansion of this protest and solidarity across Iran.<\/p>\n

The campaign stated:<\/p>\n

\u201cUnder such circumstances, resistance and confronting the inhumane death penalty are highly crucial and necessary. Therefore, this campaign calls upon all political, human rights, trade union, and civil activists, as well as all awakened consciences across Iran, to confront and stand up against the killing machine that daily and without pause takes the lives of people, citizens, and political prisoners on bogus charges.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Iranshahr Prison Joins the No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign in Its 136th Week<\/h2>\n

No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign Expands to 62 Prisons<\/h3>\n

At a time when rampant inflation and the unprecedented decline in the value of Iran\u2019s national currency have pushed the livelihoods and purchasing power of most segments of society below the poverty line, the country\u2019s economic crisis is deepening day by day.<\/p>\n

Iran is facing a profound economic and social crisis, along with a widening class divide between a minority whose hands are stained with the blood of the majority. The ruling \u201cVelayat-e Faqih\u201d system has taken no meaningful action to improve people\u2019s welfare or resolve their problems, focusing instead on preserving its own survival and that of its dependent class.<\/p>\n

At the same time, in an effort to prevent protests by an increasingly desperate population, the regime has intensified its repression of society and prisoners. As a result, reports of the daily implementation of inhumane death sentences, as well as the issuance of new death sentences, continue.<\/p>\n

In the first week of Shahrivar 1405 (late August 2026) alone, the ruling regime executed at least 32 people, including two women.<\/p>\n

In addition, a large number of those arrested during the January 2026 uprising have been sentenced to death or are at risk of receiving death sentences. Among them are the 10 defendants in the \u201cMeydan-e Shohada\u201d (Martyrs\u2019 Square) case in Isfahan, political prisoner Leila Abolhasani in Dowlatabad Prison in Isfahan, and Ali-Asghar Peighambari, whose death sentence was upheld in Qezel Hesar Prison.<\/p>\n

All of these individuals have been subjected to injustice without the right to an adequate defense or a fair trial, and their lives remain at risk.<\/p>\n

Under such circumstances, resistance to and opposition against the inhumane death penalty are critically important and necessary.<\/p>\n

For this reason, the No to Execution Tuesdays campaign calls on all political, human rights, trade union, and civil activists, as well as all awakened consciences across Iran, to confront and stand against the killing machine that, every day and without pause, takes the lives of people, citizens, and political prisoners on bogus charges.<\/p>\n

This week, a group of prisoners at Iranshahr Prison in Sistan and Baluchestan Province also joined the No to Execution Tuesdays campaign, bringing the movement to 62 participating prisons.<\/p>\n

62 Iranian Prisons Join the No to Execution Tuesdays Hunger Strike<\/h2>\n

On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, during the 136th week of the campaign, members of the No to Execution Tuesdays campaign staged a hunger strike in the following 62 prisons across Iran:<\/p>\n
