They stressed that the Iranian people have spent a century struggling against two successive dictatorships\u2014both of which, they said, have been responsible for bloodshed and repression.<\/p>\n<h3>Iranian Communities Condemn Invitation to Reza Pahlavi<\/h3>\n<p>In their letter, the Iranian associations stated:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe, the Iranian associations in Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and France, representing Iranian communities in these countries, consider the presence of Reza Pahlavi, the son of Iran\u2019s ousted dictator, in Belgium, and the meeting between him and Belgium\u2019s Defense Minister, an insult to the Iranian people\u2019s revolution against the Shah and a disregard for the universal values of democracy and human rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor a century, the Iranian people have struggled against two blood-soaked dictatorships to achieve these values.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Victims of the Shah\u2019s Repression Have Not Forgotten<\/h3>\n<p>The signatories emphasized that many members of their associations, as well as their closest relatives, were victims of arrest, imprisonment, brutal torture, and execution under the Shah\u2019s dictatorship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven after 50 years, the marks of torture inflicted by the Shah\u2019s regime remain on the bodies of many former prisoners,\u201d the letter stated.<\/p>\n<p>The associations added that the Iranian people would never forget the political prisoners who died under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncr-iran.org\/en\/fake-opposition\/savak-march-rap-and-aggression-how-irans-monarchists-are-propping-up-a-dying-regime\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SAVAK<\/a> torture or those who were sent in large numbers to firing squads.<\/p>\n<p>SAVAK was the Shah\u2019s notorious secret police, widely associated with the repression, surveillance, and torture of political opponents.<\/p>\n<h3>Reza Pahlavi Has Failed to Condemn the Shah\u2019s Crimes<\/h3>\n<p>The letter stressed that the objections to Reza Pahlavi go beyond his family ties to the former monarchy.<\/p>\n<p>The signatories stated that he has not condemned the crimes committed under the Shah\u2019s dictatorship, the former one-party system, or SAVAK. Instead, he has repeatedly sought to justify those crimes and, particularly over the past year, expressed pride in his family\u2019s history and record.<\/p>\n<p>Reza Pahlavi\u2019s network has already taken steps toward reviving SAVAK-style repression and has begun suppressing opponents and <a href=\"https:\/\/irannewsupdate.com\/news\/exposing-reza-pahlavi-and-monarchist-current\/monarchist-attacks-on-irans-dissidents-a-repeating-pattern-since-the-january-protests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">attacking gatherings<\/a> organized by his critics outside Iran.\u00a0Numerous criminal complaints concerning alleged assaults and even killings of opponents have been brought before judicial authorities and police in Western countries.<\/p>\n<h4>Belgian Officials Urged Not to Legitimize Dictatorship<\/h4>\n<p>The associations warned that, under these circumstances, Reza Pahlavi\u2019s presence in Belgium or a meeting with the country\u2019s Defense Minister would be viewed by Iranians, both inside and outside the country, as a move against their struggle for freedom and democracy.<\/p>\n<p>They called on Belgian officials not to allow Belgium\u2019s name to become associated, in the eyes of the Iranian people, with the Shah\u2019s dictatorship.<\/p>\n<p>The letter concluded by emphasizing the Iranian people\u2019s aspiration for a democratic republic based on the separation of religion and state, gender equality, and the autonomy of Iran\u2019s nationalities.<\/p>\n<p>The signatories urged Belgian leaders to respect these aspirations and stand with the Iranian people\u2019s pursuit of democracy, freedom, and human rights.<\/p>\n<h3>Signatories<\/h3>\n<p>The letter was signed by 47 Iranian associations and communities in <strong>Luxembourg, France, the Netherlands, <\/strong>and
