Iranian Resistance’s supporters protest in London
Members of the Anglo Iranian community and Iranian resistance’s supporter, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) and the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), staged a protest outside Number 10 Downing Street in London on Monday to show solidarity with the nationwide Iran protests.
The resistance’s supporters gathered outside Downing Street to express their support for the nationwide anti-regime protests taking place in Iran following the regime’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) admission that it shot down a Ukrainian passenger plane leaving Tehran and killed all 176 people on board. The IRGC had mistaken a planned plane take-off for a retaliatory strike by the US after launching missiles at US bases in Iraq.
The resistaance’s supporters called on the UK Government and Prime Minister Boris Johnson to stand with the people of Iran and their wish to bring democracy to their country. They also expressed their support for NCRI President Maryam Rajavi and her call for the international community to recognise that the Iranian regime does not represent its people and must, therefore, be overthrown by its people.
The MEK and NCRI supporters paid tribute to the victims of the aeroplane crash and the more than 1500 martyrs of the nationwide Iran uprising in November.
Hossein Abedini, a member of the NCRI’s Foreign Affairs Committee, told the London gathering that the protest by thousands of Iranians in Tehran and a number of other cities, where people chanted slogans like ‘Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, resign, resign’, made it demonstrably clear that the Iranian people demand the regime’s overthrow in its entirety.
He said: “The protests undercut the regime’s propaganda subsequent to the termination of Qassem Soleimani. Not only the protesters tore down his posters in Tehran and elsewhere, but they also chanted ‘Soleimani is a murderer, so is his leader (Ali Khamenei).’ They condemned the shooting down of the Ukrainian airliner and lashed out at the regime for lying about it.”
He continued: “In the aftermath of the November anti-regime protests in 191 cities throughout Iran in which the regime killed more than 1,500 protesters, wounded 4,000 and arrested 12,000, the tide has turned against the regime.”
The MEK and NCRI supporters’ protest, with received vast media coverage in the UK papers, featured protesters holding signs that read, “Yes to Rajavi, No to Khamenei”, and “We condemn Iran regime’s brutal crackdown on the anti-regime protests and killing of protesters”.
