In the 109th week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, political prisoners across 56 prisons in Iran launched a coordinated hunger strike on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, protesting the sharp rise in executions and the issuance of death sentences against detained protesters.

The campaign, which has steadily expanded nationwide, warns of a dramatic escalation in executions over the past month and calls for urgent international intervention to stop what it describes as a growing wave of state repression.

Hunger Strike Expands to 56 Prisons Nationwide

Marking its 109th consecutive week, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign reported that prisoners in 56 facilities joined the hunger strike, including wards in Evin, Qezelhesar, Greater Tehran, Urmia, Adelabad Shiraz, Vakilabad Mashhad, Zahedan, and dozens of other prisons across the country.

The coordinated protest coincides with the 40th-day memorial ceremonies for victims of the Dey 1404 (January 2026) uprising. According to the campaign’s statement, these ceremonies—held in various cities—have become symbols of continued resistance and public solidarity against dictatorship.

Campaign members expressed solidarity with the families of those killed during the recent protests and praised university students—from Sharif, Tehran, Amirkabir, Art, National (Melli), and Mashhad universities—for standing against repression. They called on the public to support students and warned against escalating crackdowns on academic institutions.

Death Sentences for Protesters After “Hasty and Unfair” Trials

The statement highlights what it describes as expedited and unfair judicial proceedings against detainees of the recent protests. According to the campaign, many defendants have been denied access to independent legal counsel and subjected to severe torture.

Among those named are 19-year-old Mohammad Amin Biglari and 55-year-old Mohammad Abbasi, both reportedly sentenced to death on charges of “Moharebeh” (enmity against God). The campaign also reported the suspicious death of Abdullah Paraki in detention shortly after his arrest.

In addition, the death sentence of Mehrab Abdullahzadeh, a detainee from the 2022 uprising currently held in Urmia Prison, has reportedly been upheld, placing him at imminent risk of execution.

Five-Fold Increase in Executions in Bahman

The campaign warned that more than 350 people were executed in the month of Bahman alone, representing a five-fold increase compared to the same month last year. Since the beginning of Esfand, at least 33 additional prisoners have reportedly been executed.

Describing the current situation as a “killing machine,” the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign called on international human rights organizations and global institutions to take immediate action to halt executions in Iran. The group also urged families of detainees to publicize the conditions of their imprisoned children and to raise their voices against mounting repression.
