On July 16, 2026, the Italian Chamber of Deputies hosted a major international conference entitled “Iran’s Crisis: The Democratic Path Forward” in Regina Hall in Rome.
In her opening remarks as the conference organizer, Naike Gruppioni, Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, emphasized the moral and institutional responsibility of democratic countries to support the Iranian people’s pursuit of freedom.
She thanked Deputy Speaker Fabio Rampelli for hosting the conference and conveyed greetings from Galeazzo Bignami, leader of the Brothers of Italy parliamentary group.
Welcoming Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), Gruppioni described her as a powerful symbol of hope and determination:
“Your presence represents the hopes of millions of Iranian women and men who long to live in a free, democratic, and peaceful nation.”
She praised Rajavi’s visionary leadership, stating:
“Hers [Maryam Rajavi’s] is a vision that looks to the future and continues to inspire those who believe that change can be born from the strength of ideas and the will of the people. With courage, determination, and extraordinary consistency, she has continued for years to carry forward a battle founded on the universal values of freedom, democracy, the rule of law…”

Gruppioni highlighted the NCRI’s Ten-Point Plan, declaring:
“Her Ten-Point Plan constitutes a clear and credible political proposal for a free, pluralistic Iran that respects human dignity.”
The Italian MP warned that silence and indifference in the face of systematic repression — especially against women and young people — cannot be considered neutrality
“When a woman risks her life for freedom, when a young person asks only to live without fear, and when a people demand the right to choose their own future, silence is not neutrality — it is surrender.”
In her concluding remarks, Gruppioni stressed:
“Freedom, democracy, human dignity, and human rights do not belong to one nation alone — they belong to all humanity.”
She underlined that the future of Iran must be decided by the Iranian people themselves, based on democratic values, political pluralism, equality between women and men, and full respect for fundamental rights.
