Iran’s Regime Executes Five Political Prisoners in Mashhad After a Decade in Vakilabad Prison

Iran’s regime executed five political prisoners in Mashhad’s Vakilabad Prison after ten years.

April 8, 2025 – Mashhad, Iran — In a chilling act of repression, the Iranian regime executed five political prisoners—Farhad Shakeri, Taj Mohammad Khormali, Abdolrahman Gorgij, Abdolhakim Azim Gorgij, and Malek Fadaei—at Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad early Tuesday morning. The executions, carried out without prior notice or final family visits, come after the men spent ten years behind bars.

The prisoners, arrested in 2015 and 2019, were convicted on charges of baghi (armed rebellion) by the Revolutionary Court in Mashhad under the notorious Judge Davoodabadi. This marks the latest wave of executions tied to the same case, following the December 2020 execution of three other defendants—Hamid Rastbala, Kabir Sa’adat Jahani, and Mohammad Ali Arayesh.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), denounced the executions as an attempt by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to crush growing dissent and forestall a looming uprising. “These atrocities will not stop the tide of resistance,” Rajavi stated. “Rather, they strengthen the resolve of Iran’s defiant youth.”

Mrs. Rajavi warned that silence from the international community only emboldens the regime to continue its campaign of terror and suppression, urging governments and human rights organizations to break their silence and take firm action.

The NCRI has condemned the executions as crimes against humanity and called for international accountability.
