Geneva, Switzerland – May 1, 2025 — On the fourth day of a five-day sit-in at Place des Nations in front of the United Nations European headquarters, supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) renewed their call for global action against the Iranian regime’s human rights abuses.
The protest, which began on April 28 and continues through May 2, coincided with International Workers’ Day and included a moving tribute to Iranian laborers, especially those killed in the recent explosion in Bandar Abbas.
Participants expressed deep solidarity with Iranian workers and the oppressed across Iran—highlighting the tragic deaths in Bandar Abbas, caused by the regime’s criminal decision to stockpile sensitive chemical and military materials in a civilian port. Protesters blamed the clerical regime and its IRGC forces for turning public spaces into death traps and sacrificing innocent lives for militaristic ends.
The protest also strongly condemned the regime’s ongoing wave of executions, particularly of political prisoners. Demonstrators demanded an immediate halt to the death penalty in Iran and the unconditional release of all political detainees.
They drew attention to the urgent cases of Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani, two MEK supporters at risk of imminent execution for their political beliefs.
Calling for accountability, the sit-in participants urged the international community to refer Iranian regime officials to international courts for crimes against humanity. They also advocated for recognition of the democratic alternative to the current dictatorship—namely, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and the MEK. Protesters reaffirmed their support for Resistance Units operating inside Iran who continue to risk their lives for freedom, democracy, and human rights.
