Maryam Rajavi Highlights Regime Fragility and Urges Firm Policy Toward Iran in Paris Parliamentary Conference
At a May 2025 conference hosted by the Committee of Parliamentarians for a Free Iran at the French National Assembly, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), delivered a compelling speech outlining the vulnerabilities of the Iranian regime and advocating for a decisive Western stance in support of the Iranian people’s struggle for freedom.

Mrs. Rajavi opened her remarks by challenging the illusion of strength projected by Iran’s ruling theocracy through violence and foreign aggression. “The world is beginning to recognize the regime’s fragility,” she noted, citing its eroding influence in Syria and Lebanon and its rapid military retreats.
She pointed to the regime’s greatest vulnerability: widespread domestic opposition. Rajavi referenced an admission by the regime’s own judiciary chief that approximately 90,000 people—many of them youths—had been arrested during the 2022 uprising. Recent government efforts to militarize schools further highlighted the deep unrest gripping Iranian society.
Despite a brutal crackdown, resistance remains strong, as evidenced by political prisoners in Evin Prison chanting slogans against Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and persistent strikes and protests by workers, teachers, and retirees across the country. Meanwhile, the regime has escalated executions and intensified persecution of activists associated with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
Workers, oil industry workers, teachers, nurses, retirees, and drivers have staged thousands of protests and strikes. Alongside them, the Resistance Units have been actively operating across the country daily, carrying out anti-repression actions.

Mrs. Rajavi criticized the West’s decades-long policy of appeasement, arguing that negotiations have only enabled the regime’s pursuit of nuclear weapons. She warned that Tehran continues to develop nuclear infrastructure in secret, referencing a newly exposed facility in Semnan. She urged Western powers, particularly the European Union and France, to reimpose UN Security Council resolutions and dismantle Iran’s uranium enrichment program.
“The only lasting solution,” Rajavi asserted, “is regime change by the Iranian people and their Resistance.” She called on France and the international community to designate the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization and to recognize the legitimacy of the Iranian Resistance.

Mrs. Rajavi paid tribute to Professor Alejo Vidal-Quadras, who survived an assassination attempt allegedly ordered by the Iranian regime in 2023. His continued advocacy underscored the regime’s fear of exposure and international accountability.
Concluding her speech, Rajavi evoked the legacy of the French Resistance during World War II, drawing a parallel to Iran’s modern-day struggle. She praised the Iran-2025 Declaration—endorsed by numerous members of the French National Assembly—as a principled framework for supporting democracy and freedom in Iran.

She emphasized the core values of the NCRI: a democratic republic, gender equality, separation of religion and state, ethnic autonomy, and a non-nuclear Iran. Rejecting any form of imposed rule, Rajavi declared: “No to compulsory hijab, no to compulsory religion, and no to compulsory governance.”
Her speech was a clear call to action for Western democracies to replace appeasement with resolve, and to stand alongside the Iranian people in their pursuit of liberty.
