Remarks by John Perry in Webinar on Iran’s 1988 Massacre

Cross-party Members of Parliament from both the UK and European countries took part in a virtual conference on Thursday, 10 September 2020, to support the global campaign to seek justice for victims of the 1988 massacre of political prisoners in Iran.
Prominent human rights lawyers, a former UN official, the UK Representative of the Iranian Resistance Movement (NCRI), European parliamentarians and dignitaries also participated in the conference, which heard testimonies from the family members of the victims of the 1988 massacre.
Speakers agreed that the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners in Iran in 1988 is an ongoing crime against humanity ordered by the highest authority in the country at the time. They also argued that the appalling human rights situation in Iran is a direct result of the failure of the international community to hold the perpetrators of the 1988 massacre to account.

The keynote speaker at this event was Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).

John Perry former Irish minister joined the Online Parliamentary Conference by Cross-Party UK, European MPs and Prominent Jurists on 1988 Massacre in Iran. In his remarks, Mr. Perry said, “In order to prevent such human rights violations from happening again, it is absolutely necessary to hold the regime in Tehran to account.”

John Perryformer Irish minister:

As the NCRI has repeatedly emphasised, there is a risk of a new wave of secret mass executions in Iran’s prisons if regime officials and leaders in Tehran continue to enjoy impunity at the international level despite their well-documented involvement in serious human rights violations and crime against humanity at home.

In order to prevent such human rights violations from happening again, it is absolutely necessary to hold the regime in Tehran to account.

The United Nations has not carried out its long overdue duties in this regard. Western governments must:

-Strongly condemn this heinous crime against humanity and launch their independent investigations and inquiries into it

-Take this case to the courts with international jurisdictions

-Implement diplomatic and economic sanctions on the regime

It is time that we on this side of the Atlantic, in the EU and the UK, join them in support and send a strong message of solidarity to the people of Iran, and send a strong message of condemnation to the Iranian regime and make sure they understand that this time, we mean business and we will not stop until we help the people of Iran and their legitimate Resistance, the NCRI, achieve justice their ultimate goal of that is a democratic and free Iran.
