The Expansion of demonstrations in Iran threaten the Mullahs’ rule
Last week, the Iranian people in various cities launched mass demonstrations against the mullahs.
One of the most notable characteristics of this demonstrations that shook different Iranian cities was the protesters’ slogans, which quickly transformed from economic woes to calls for the overthrow of the Iranian regime and the ouster of Ali Khamenei, its supreme leader.
Protests are taking place against the escalating economic problems, unemployment, rising prices and the dwindling value of the rial, Iran’s national currency. Since April, the rial has lost half of its value. However, in many cities, protesters are chanting “Death to dictator” and “Death to Khamenei,” a clear and irrefutable call for regime change. This indicates that the people of Iran know well what is the source of their miseries and the daily degradation of their livelihoods.
Some of the cities where the protests and clashes erupted in:
Courageous youth in Gohardasht of Karaj demonstrated and chanted: “Khamenei, shame on you, let go the country”; “Fellow Iranians, shout and cry for your rights.” The agents of the repressive forces opened fire at the protesters to suppress them.
The people of Qom also rallied against the criminal system of Velayat-e Faqih and the mullahs. The young people chanted: “Seyyed Ali (Khamenei), shame on you, let go of the country”; “Down with Hezbollah; down with the Dictator”; “Khamenei lives like a god, while the people live in poverty”; “Honorable Iranians, Support! Support.” When the anti-riot guard and Bassijis and plainclothes agents attacked the protesters, they clashed with them and chanted “Rascals, rascals”.
In Tehran, the people rallied in College Street at night while chanting: “Death to the Dictator”; “Iranians rather die than tolerate humiliation.” The protests of the youth at Vali-e Asr intersection spread to Hafez Ave. and below College Bridge. Protesters clashed with repressive forces. The people chanted: “Iranians rather die than tolerate humiliation.” The criminal plainclothes agents arrested a large number of the youth.
In Abhar (Zanjan province), the protesters clashed with the repressive forces at Mosalla Square and burned tires to block their way.
The youth in Shiraz also protested at Moshir Ave. while chanting: “Down with high prices”; “Death to the Dictator”; “Cannon, tank, firecracker, the mullahs must get lost.”
The brave youth of Ghahdarijan also rallied and clashed with repressive forces on Saturday night.
In Karaj a young man, Reza Otadi, was shot to dead by repressive forces during the demonstrations in the city, and a large number of protesters were arrested.
The body of Reza Otadi, the 23-year old protester murdered by Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) units in Karaj during major anti-regime protests, was laid to rest on Monday in Tehran’s famous Beheshte Zahra Cemetery.
In the Shohada Street and Square, the frustrated people of Kazerun protested against their dire livelihood situation and the repressive and corrupt regime of mullahs. They chanted: “High prices and inflation, the misery of the people”; “Death to high prices”; “Do not be afraid; do not be afraid, we are all together”; “Honorable Iranians, support, support.”
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, saluted the arisen people of Tehran, Karaj, Shiraz, Ghahdarijan, Qom, Abhar and other cities, and said: “The slogans of death to the dictator and death to Khamenei, and the persistence of these young people against the Revolutionary Guards and the criminal plainclothes mercenaries, as well as intelligence and security forces, represent the determination of the Iranian people to change the mullahs’ regime and establish freedom and the rule of people.”
