British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF): Statement on the Nowruz Celebration in Parliament

BCFIF Statement on the Nowruz Celebration in the UK Parliament

Following the Nowruz celebration hosted at the UK Parliament, the British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF) issued a comprehensive press release, echoing and expanding upon the messages expressed during the event.

The statement emphasized the hope that the new Persian year could mark a decisive turning point in the Iranian people’s struggle for a free and democratic republic. It praised the NCRI and its Resistance Units for their continued defiance and underlined the regime’s increasing desperation, evident in record-high executions, draconian repression of women, and intensifying nuclear blackmail and hostage diplomacy.

The Committee reiterated calls made by MPs and Peers during the gathering, urging the UK Government to:

  • Proscribe the IRGC as a terrorist organization;
  • Recognize and engage with the NCRI as the legitimate democratic alternative;
  • Support Maryam Rajavi’s 10-point democratic platform;
  • Activate the snapback mechanism to reimpose UN sanctions and halt Iran’s nuclear advances;
  • Refer the regime’s human rights abuses to the UN Security Council and support accountability efforts via Universal Jurisdiction.

As Bob Blackman MP, President of the International Committee of Parliamentarians for a Democratic Iran, noted:

“Iran is at a turning point. A free and democratic republic is within reach. The Iranian people’s spring is on the horizon.”

The full statement, including powerful quotes from parliamentarians and prominent human rights advocates, is available here.
