In a strong expression of international solidarity with Iran’s pro-democracy movement, a majority of Welsh Parliament (Senedd Cymru) members have endorsed the Ten-Point Plan of Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). The cross-party statement was signed by 43 of the Senedd’s 62 members, including Presiding Officer Elin Jones, party leaders, and key committee chairs.
Titled Free Iran 2025, the declaration affirms the Iranian people’s right to resist authoritarian rule and advocates for a democratic, secular republic. It explicitly denounces the regime’s systematic oppression, including forced veiling, mass executions, and theocratic control.
“The Iranian people, through their 2022 uprising, clearly rejected both monarchical and theocratic dictatorships in favor of a democratic republic,” the statement asserts. It praises the NCRI’s democratic vision, which pledges to uphold gender equality, abolish the death penalty, ensure religious freedom, and enforce a firm separation between religion and state.
The statement urges democratic governments to adopt a principled stance by supporting the Iranian opposition and Mrs. Rajavi’s roadmap for a peaceful, democratic future. It also calls for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to be designated as a terrorist organization and recognizes the right of Iran’s Resistance Units to defend against repression.
“Experience in places like Syria has shown that regimes built on fear and violence are not invincible,” the signatories note, referencing growing instability within the Iranian regime.
The move by Senedd Cymru aligns Wales with a widening international coalition, as parliamentary majorities in numerous countries have echoed similar support. The growing global consensus signals a shift away from appeasement and toward a foreign policy rooted in democratic values and solidarity with the Iranian people’s aspirations.
