On the brink of the U.N. General Assembly’s annual session, an online international summit, entitled “Trans-Atlantic Summit on Iran Policy, Time to Hold the Iranian Regime Accountable,” was held September 18. The Summit brought together Iranians in various countries around the world from 10,000 locations. Mr. Fatmir Mediu, leader of the Republican Party and former Minister of Defense of Albania, joined the Summit.
Among the personalities who addressed the summit were 30 bipartisan U.S. lawmakers from the House and the Senate. Personalities including:
Senator Ted Cruz, Senator Roy Blunt, Senator Marco Rubio, Senator Bob Menendez, and dignitaries like Rudy Giuliani, former New York City mayor, General James Jones, National Security Advisor to President Obama (2009-2010), Newt Gingrich, 50th Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Joseph Lieberman, former U.S. Senator, as well as a delegation of U.K. lawmakers, and Ambassador Giulio Terzi, former Foreign Minister of Italy.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the keynote speaker of the summit
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the NCRI was the keynote speaker of the summit. She paid tribute to Navid Afkari, a rebellious national hero recently executed by the regime. Mrs. Rajavi said: “Faced with executions and massacres, the people of Iran urge the U.N. and the U.N. Security Council, in particular, to restore snapback sanctions stipulated in the six U.N. resolutions against the clerical regime in Iran.”
She continued,”Otherwise, Khamenei will continue to ravage the nation as his regime’s survival depends on murder and suppression. If Khamenei were to stop executions, he would lose control of the situation, and uprisings simmering in the depths of Iranian society would erupt and overthrow the mullahs’ religious fascism.”
At the summit, speakers demanded justice for over 30,000 MEK and other activists, political prisoners massacred in 1988. As a result they urged an end to the appeasement policy and requested those who ordered and carried out this great crime, who currently occupy high positions in the regime, to be brought to justice.
Fatmir Mediu, leader of the Republican Party and former Minister of Defense of Albania joined to the summit. In his remarks, Mr. Mediu said, “The Albanian government took a decision to expel the Iranian ambassador. But is this enough? I don’t think so. That’s why it’s time to stand for the right things and do the right thing.”
Fatmir Mediu, leader of the Republican Party and former Minister of Defense of Albania
Dear Madame Rajavi, Albania for many years has become the home of MEK, NCRI and Madame Rajavi, thanks to the brave decision of our leader then, Sali Berisha, and the current government. We are really blessed to have you in our country because you are becoming an inspiration to us when we see Madame Rajavi. Your patience, your love for your people, and especially your program to have a free Iran. But thank you as well that you gave us a great family of friends from all around the world.
When I see General Jones, General Keane, Mayor Giuliani, Torricelli, Senator Lieberman, all the senators that I have the chance to get to know them in Washington, knowing now about Albania and also members of Congress, and praising what Albania’s done, this makes me really proud. But also makes us to think more what we can do all together because it’s important that we do in the future with our friends from around the world.
Many of the speakers have referred to the God-given rights such as life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. These are God-given rights not just for Americans, not just for the Brits or Europeans or Albanians, are for every individual, all people, and also every nation including Iran. That’s why we should stick together and work together and keep Iran regime accountable and working to have free Iran in the future. UN is an organization of nations formed to help people. And so they should decide how they can help Iranian people.
People of Iran, like other civilized nations, want to have freedom and democracy. They don’t want to have nuclear bomb. They want life and freedom. But Iran regime has massacred. Just in 2019, about 15 death row now. And we should think what we can do about that. In all the nations, the leaders are responsible in front of Iranian people to stand and stick together for the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness of Iranian people.
Iranian people are against terrorism. They are against the countries that sponsor terrorism as well. So it’s important that everybody should know what the Iranian regime is doing. What they have done in Albania to organize terrorist plot, what they have done in other European countries, or what they are doing in sponsoring terrorism in the Middle East. The Albanian government took a decision to expel the Iranian ambassador. But is this enough? I don’t think so. That’s why it’s time to stand for the right things and do the right thing.
Iran is expanding also its military capabilities. It’s not caring about the economy of Iran, the economy of the family of Iranians and also Iranian people, but just military. The experience of dictatorship in Albania has taught us that the regime can stand as long as they want through oppression, poverty, massacre, torture, imprisonment of people. And that’s where we should think together how we give a stop to this. But the Iranian regime also is looking for other alike around the world. Regimes which are alike. They’re looking to get more support from China, and also from Russia, to create an alliance to face the democratic world. And that’s why it is important that Americans, Europeans, Brits and all democratic countries should stick together and come with a solution, and come with a decision.
