Statement by the (A.P.A.D.A.R) in Romania on the Eve of the Anniversary of the Nationwide Iran Protests in November 2019

Condemnation of the killings in Iran

The Human Rights Association for the Protection of the Rights of Refugees (A.P.A.D.A.R) in Romania (Asociația Pentru Apărarea Drepturilor Apatrizilor și Refugiaților) issued a statement in support of the release of Iranian political prisoners on the eve of the anniversary of the November 2019 uprising in Iran.

The statement stressed that on the eve of the nationwide protests’ anniversary in November 2019, the Iranian regime killed 1,500 innocent protesters and arrested and tortured 12,000. As Amnesty International called in its recent report, it must be thoroughly audited. The association strongly urges the United Nations to take immediate action to save political prisoners’ lives in prison.

The statement also referred to the brutal execution of Navid Afkari and condemned that as a violation of human rights. Navid was the Iranian wrestling champion who executed, by the mullahs’ regime on September 12, 2020.

Viorel Ene, the association president, who signed the statement, injured in the 1989 Romanian revolution. He was severely injured in street battles. He was sent to Germany for treatment. In 1990, he founded the Association for the Protection of Refugees in Romania (A.P.A.D.A.R).

Calling for immediate action to save the lives of political prisoners, in particular prisoners of the November 2019 uprising in Iran

Statement of Immediate Cessation of Executions and Release of Political Prisoners in Iran

We are approaching November 2019, when the people of Iran took their peaceful protests to Iran’s streets. Armed security forces faced widespread protesters. The Iranian regime’s security forces, once again, committed a crime, firing directly at the protesters. The government’s brutal crackdown resulted in the killing of 1,500 and the imprisonment of more than 12000 innocent people. The arrestees were humiliated and tortured. In a recent report, Amnesty International demands the Iranian regime to be held accountable for killing the protestors.

Once more the Iranian regime’s barbarity was exhibited by the execution of a 27-years old national wrestler, Navid Afkari, on September 12, 2020. After going through torture and intimidations, he was executed in the city of Shiraz, despite widespread domestic and international pleas for his life. Navid’s crime was his participation in a peaceful protest in his hometown Shiraz.
