Simultaneous with deliberation on Iran UPR,MEK supporters in Switzerland demonstrate outside the UN European HQ
On Friday November 8, 2019, MEK supporters in Switzerland held a rally outside the United Nations European Headquarters in Geneva as the UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group is examining the Iranian regime’s human rights record for the third time.
The protester say that the mass murderers are officials of the Iranian regime, including the head of its Judiciary.
The MEK supporters in Switzerland held pictures of thousands of victims of the 1988 massacre at the Place de la Nation, where the rally was being held.
Thanking the participants for their gathering, Ms. Neda Amani, a representative of the Iranian Youth association in Switzerland, introduced the speakers at the rally.
Ms. Florence Laurence Fehlmann Rielle, a Swiss Federal Parliament member, M. Alfred Zayas, former UN rapporteur and Professor of International Relations in Geneva University, Ms. Christiane Perregaux, and M. Daniel Neeser, priest and a longtime supporter of the Iranian Resistance, addressed the gathering of the MEK supporters in Switzerland.
M. Yazdan Afsharpour from the Association of Political Prisoners spoke on the situation of human rights in Iran.
The third Iran UPR is simultaneous with a new phase in the campaign for justice for victims of the 1988 massacre. A 200-page report by Amnesty International on the massacre as an “ongoing crime against humanity” is among documents which underscore the fact that because the perpetrators of the 1988 massacre still hold senior government positions, the statute of limitation does not apply to this case and that those responsible must be held to account for their crimes.
Ebrahim Raisi, the mullahs’ current Judiciary Chief, was a key member of the Death Commissions which ordered the execution of 30,000 political prisoners none of whom had been sentenced to death. There were executed while serving time without any new charges against them.
Alireza Avayie, Hassn Rouhani’s Justice Minister, was a member of the Death Commission in Khuzestan Province.
The mullahs’ appalling human rights record has been brought before the UPR twice in the past, in February 2010 and October 2014.
In their final declaration, the MEK supporters in Switzerland demanded that those who ordered and carried out the 1988 massacre must be brought before an international tribunal for prosecution, and that the mullahs’ human rights record must sent to the UN Security Council for the adoption of binding and punitive measures.
